Yea thats what he was saying like man its easy we got all the tools cant be that different the whole time i was biting my tongue because i gained a free volunteer. I just remember i got the motorcycle jack which in this case can act as a trans jack i almost jumped with joy when i figured that out.
Thanks man my father in law says he has done a tranny swap when he had his 5.0 90s mustang. I think the 4x4 will prove a little trickier than expected.
Yea i am debating buying the trans jack or rigging somehing up with my two jacks and some wood. I know i am biting off alot but i am chewing slowly. So the transfer case is coming out too. I havnt done too much under there in a while i think i have forgotten how cramped it is. Thanks for the...
It is as the title reads. Within the next few weeks i will be dropping the transmission out of my KJ and putting in a remanufactured transmission from ShiftRite in Kankakee Il.

So the fun...
How much atf+4 goes into an empty transmission? The sticky says 5 i figured it would be more. Does anyone know what else i will need to swap the trans. Special gaskets tools parts?
Thanks hoosier. I figure i can give it a shot swapping them. I would have to get mine out to get the core refund and pick up the new one all in one shot. Yea its the one in kankakee il. So from chicago its an hour.
Does anybody have thoughts or experience with shift rite trans? Seems to have some upgraded parts transgo kit and a sonaxx tc. For the price it isnt bad i could pick it up myself they are located in illinois about an hour south of me.
Thats the thing i can get another kj for that or less but it could be a shit show or worse. My jeep never really had any trans issues. Until a few weeks ago we went to target and when we came out it woukdnt go anywhere. So i thought maybe the brakes were locked so i put it in neutral and pushed...
If i can make her live 1.5 years i am golden i will be through with the apprenticeship and doing alot better for myself. I figure if i have to drop a trans in there a year and a half is nothing.
Update: drove a solid hour on LSD lake shore drive for anyone thinking i was on acid. No problems...
The trans gods are the only ones that know the answer to that. I bought the jeep going on 5 years ago with 119k. The first fluid refresh it wasnt black or nasty no big metal chunks just the black dusty stuff at the bottom of the pan. I get what your saying she has lived her life.
Thanks for all the help debating if i want to run till its done or work on saving it. I just always read the 45rfe was a tank behind the v8s. Figured it was a safe bet to assume it would last forver with the 3.7
I agree that a diagnostic would be very helpful but last time i tried this every shop was already trying to sell me a trans. No joke telling me i should just save the money to put towards a new/rebuilt trans. Over the phone not even seeing the jeep. I am sure there are some good reputable shops...
Fix it nuff said lol. If its not the brakes its the trans or a pump or a pulley. She is getting old and its falling apart. Worst thing is i get compliments all the time for how good she looks people think its alot younger than it is. For chicago to have no rust is a sign of a young vehicle.
Another bit of info when this was all going down the jeep was running pretty hot for the outside air temp. The coolant temp was between 203 and 207 never over 207 and intake was like 135-145. Considering i was sitting in stop and go in this half assed limp and it was about 75 degrees i think...
