What did you do to your jeep today?

Put the 'new' engine in :)

Finally replacing engine - couple of questions

Well, the new engine is finally in. So far I've only driven back and forth a few yards on the driveway a couple of times (spent till 10.30pm working on it with a headlamp), but it runs :). I think I have exhaust leaks from both manifold to downpipe connections, but I think that's just because...

What did you do to your jeep today?

Does anyone know what the sensor (?) in the center of this picture is? This is on an engine out of an '08 KK. My '05 engine doesn't have anything there.

Finally replacing engine - couple of questions

Thanks! I want to block the EGR on the new engine because my '05 doesn't have an EGR system. So I figured simply blocking the EGR port on the new engine will be a lot simpler than installing the complete EGR system.

Finally replacing engine - couple of questions

I'm finally getting around to replacing my worn-out engine. I was able to find an engine out of an '08 KK with only 65k miles and great compression. I'll be picking it up on Monday. I'm getting together everything I'll need, and have run into a couple of things I'm not sure about: - Is there...

What did you do to your jeep today?

    Had a compression test done, to see if it's even worth pulling the engine to fix the leaking oil pan gasket. Cylinder 1- 135psi, 2- 120psi, 3- 125psi, 4- 160psi, 5- 115psi, 6-170psi. :(

Oil leak - rear main seal?

Crank sensor is completely dry. I just did an oil change. Despite adding a quart every 300-350 miles, only about 3 quarts came out. Ugh. Losing that much, I just don't get how there are never any drips when I park it. I cleaned the bottom up as much as possible, and covered the seam between the...

Oil leak - rear main seal?

I finally got around to removing the structural cover, and everything was clean underneath there. So (unless I'm missing something), I think that rules out the rear main seal. There was lots of fresh oil all over the bottom again. I checked the valve covers, oil filter, oil pressure sender...

    Mystery leak

Check the oil pressure sender, it's located right above the filter. It's pretty common for them to leak on the KJ.

    Exhausted! (Question about exhaust system)

The downpipes will not match up with the exhaust manifolds. The 02-04 uses a V-clamp system. On the 05+, both the downpipe and the exhaust manifold have flanges that get bolted together. If you want to attach an 05+ downpipe to an 02-04 exhaust manifold, there is no way to connect them On the...

Oil leak - rear main seal?

All the PCV hoses are fine, no leaks. And there's no oil anywhere on top of the engine, just the bottom.

Oil leak - rear main seal?

That was one of the first things I checked, they are both completely dry.

Oil leak - rear main seal?

Just a bit of background - my 2005 3.7 KJ has been going through a lot of oil for quite a while. Approximately a year ago I replaced the oil pressure sender and the front main seal, because both were leaking. That, and upgrading to the 2006 PCV system reduced the amount of oil it goes through...

    Suspension shot, What brands?

That's pretty much what I did with mine. I pulled a set of LCA's off a KJ at a junkyard, sanded and painted them, and replaced all the old bushings with new Moog PS ones. Then just switched them out with the old LCA's. Cost about $50 per LCA that way, compared to $350-400 for a completely new one.

What did you do to your jeep today?

Not having much luck with the KJ this past week. On Saturday night the battery died after I had the interior light on for 10-15 minutes. Got a jump, and was planning on replacing the battery after getting this month's pay check in a couple of days. In the mean time, I got a portable jumper box...

    Milky Oil Cap

I used to get A LOT of this milky crap in the oil filler tube, no matter how often I replaced the PCV valve. Then I converted the entire PCV system to the 2006+ setup mentioned earlier in this thread, and that completely solved the problem. No condensation or goo of any kind since then.

Anyone have to cut control arms out

Definitely make sure you get some high quality sawzall blades though. I used blades from Harbor Freight for the first control arm. It took forever and I think I went through 6 or 7 blades. Got some more expensive blades from a local hardware store for the second one, and that made it a lot...

Anyone have to cut control arms out

Yeah there's enough room for a sawzall blade. I had to cut both of mine out.

What did you do to your jeep today?

Does anyone have any tips on how to remove duct tape residue from a window and door frame? My driver's side rear window regulator broke last week in the middle of a 600-mile trip, and I had to duct tape the window to keep it up because it was raining pretty bad.
