vibration
Some fans have a small balance weight on them that can cause serious vibration if they come off. Don't know about Liberty fans but sudden occurrence suggests this. Once had a Pontiac Fiero that slung the balance weight on the radiator fan and the resulting vibration shook the whole...
Gremlins...
When you have strange things happen like the door locks acting up, check the grounds methodically. Get a wiring diagram, find them all, and one by one disconnect and clean them. Corroded/dirty grounds cause all types of problems.
Hmmm....
Depends on the lady. Usually I would agree, but the one I married would be the exception. Smart, good looking, loyal, and great figure. On second thought, sounds like my jeep...
In defense...
Sometimes life takes over and derails our projects, especially at age 19. Unexpected expenses, illness, or perhaps a romance can cause us to abandon a project. Or sometimes we realize what we started is a bad idea - not practical or too costly. So let's not be too hard on the...
Starter won't operate...
Had the same problem after having my starter out when changing the transmission. Seems that the battery cable to the starter was loose so didn't sent enough current to the starter to turn over. I thought I had it tight when re-installing the starter, but didn't. I...
Misfire
Have you checked the wiring going to coil #6? Autozone has a loaner kit with electric lights that plugs into the wiring harness connector for coils and fires the light when the PCM tells the coil to fire. If the wiring harness to coil 6 is shorting out, it would not signal coil 6 to...
'03 limited
My '03 Limited has ABS. Did not realize it is an uncommon option in '03. I would be happy without ABS due to simplicity as Libby ages. But since my wife has fallen in love with Libby and drives her as much as possible, I am happy to have it for her. In an emergency, the wife's...
42RLE valve body
Does removal of the valve body on a 42RLE require transmission removal? I think so due to the shift shaft that goes through the transmission and has the cable attachment on the shaft at the top of the transmission. I did not see a way to remove the valve body on my 42RLE...
Root cause
Agree with M38Bob that the probable cause is a broken cancel cam on the steering column. Turn the steering wheel 360 degrees both ways from center position. Do you see two cancel cams on the steering column? If not, check to determine if one is broken off. Most columns have two...
Won't start
Switch the starter relay with another relay in the fuse panel. The relay can click and still be bad. The click means the relay solenoid is closing the contacts to send current to the starter solenoid. However if the relay contacts are burnt, not enough current will be sent to the...
AC
Is the clutch cycling? Does it close at all? If the clutch does not close at all, it could be 1. no refrigerant in system (leaked out all R134) or the clutch itself might be defective. If you unplug the clutch and put 12v on the clutch positive wire and the clutch closes, then you likely...

May be a pin hole from rust on the trans pan as they are susceptible to this.
The shoo shoo shoo sound is likely warped rotors. Turning them is an option but usually it is best just to buy new ones at $30 each. Check Rockauto for pricing. Sounds like your friends Liberty has...
First Liberty
My wife wanted a 4x4 to travel rough dirt roads in the mountains. I started looking at Grand Cherokees and Liberty 4x4's. Prices for high mileage 4x4's were what I considered high and none of the vehicles grabbed me. Rust, lots of wear, and condition put me off for the price...
Wiring Harness?
Does the standard 02 & 03 wiring harness support all the radios in Gyro's list? Can one simply plug in the most complicated radio into the wiring connector for the base radio and everything works? Is an oem radio upgrade simply plug and play?
fobs
look on the back of the fobs and you will see a model/fcc id and Canada numbers. If these are the same as the one on your original Jeep fob, they can be programmed to work with your jeep. Jeep fobs on eBay go for about $8 so if the Chrysler ones you have do not have the same frequency...
NGK plugs
Check the label in the engine compartment. It will tell you the NGK plug part number that you should be using. If you use other plugs, they can cause excessive heat and thus melted coils. As others have said this is the place to start.
oil leak
Get a drop of the oil on your finger. Trans oil is red to pink and engine oil is light brown to near black. If your trans fluid hasn't been changed in a very long time, the red color may fade into a light brown, so look at your tranny dip stick to compare its color to the oil on your...
