Yet another noob question- plugs and such
Yeah there must have been arcing between the coil packs and the plug, I would suspect they are damaged. Perhaps they had a loose connection, or wasn't engaged properly, but they are probably cooked now.- Michael Wolfe

2006 CRD Limited Loosing Coolant... Pass Cold Engine Test.
So somewhere it's consuming coolant, then when the system cools, and the remaining coolant contracts, it draws from the reservoir as designed. If there are no physical leaks, (radiator, water pump weeping, heater core, viscous heater, not leaking at any plugs where the EGR components fell off...- Michael Wolfe

Engine Rebuild
Had this issue with the first Toyota V6 with faulty head gaskets. Replaced both head gaskets, water pump, thermostat, timing belt, idlers and adjuster, basically everything that was a service item, that I didn't want to have to tear down and replace anyway in 30K. Please explain to me how it would show up on a service record if a previous owner overheated it pulling a trailer up a mountain. I would say just that design would allow the gummed up valve lash adjuster to allow the rocker arm to pop out and bounce around under the valve cover would be bad enough to warrant that badge. The valve seat failure is a bonus. I'd rather run the valve clearances myself than risk that. Maybe not...- Michael Wolfe

The 3.7 wasn't a very good engine. My brother-in-law has one in his KK, ran into issues not running right. Read up on the valve seat problem, the lash adjuster problems, etc. Dealer said he needed a new engine due to carbon buildup, so no help there. My 05 CRD runs great with 180K. Get a CRD. But seriously, your problem is the altitude, right, so is there a turbo setup that would just compensate for the altitude? Then a waste gate to bleed off the boost when you're not flying high? Not sure if anyone makes a waste gate that will relieve boost above 14.7 psia.- Michael Wolfe

Pls help 04 Jeep Liberty renegade overheating on hwy
It was actually because it wouldn't shift into overdrive. Instead of happily chugging along at 2K RPM on the highway, it had to rev up to about 3.8K. Had to take back roads ( ran fine ). Replaced the input and output transmission speed sensors and connectors, and never had the issue again...- Michael Wolfe

Noob question- alloy vs. steel
IMO, I prefer steel. Back in the day my brother caught a little too much air in his Toyota. He landed hard on one of the front wheels which ripped the BFG off and bent the rim. Pls help 04 Jeep Liberty renegade overheating on hwy
I had a similar problem with my 2005 CRD. Due to a bad transmission sensor, I lost the overdrive, so the engine had to run at high RPM's at highway speed, causing it to overheat.- Michael Wolfe
