I'd say that the motor in the KJ will last as long as you want it to. I.E. you take care of the KJ and it will return the favor by giving you plenty of trouble free miles. The valve springs are the weak spot for sure... Most reported issues happen after the 100K mile mark but not every KJ...
As an aside - my Liberty (car) has been making racket ever since I bought it. In fact, I went to a lube shop once and while I was pulling into the bay and the service tech thought that my engine was a "couple" quarts low on oil.
Ticking noises in the KJ are pretty common.
While they might not be "exactly" the same in terms of naming, both transmissions are nearly identical on the inside.
Wiki on 45RFE & 545RFE it's a good read BTW.
A guy on lost took his 45RFE and reprogrammed it to act like a 545RFE. [The forum is currently down so I can't hot link to...
Right there were onezies and twozies that went down the assembly line before the April 20th switch over. For general shopping purposes though - these are the basic rules of the KJ.
Common Issues:
Post 2004 - Window Regulator failures. There is a Chrysler fix now, but they charge you for it.
All Model years - body seam (behind the rear flipper glass) is prone to rusting. Inspect the area with the rear glass open and you will see where the upper half of the body...
My guess: The holes & indents you see are for the robotic arm that assembles the body panels on the manufacturing line. Indents get the arm into "close position" and holes tell the robot arm that it has a secure grip on the body panel it intends to attach to the vehicle.
just a guess...
That heel dent in the logo area is where I had the wear through problem on two sets of the Mopar rubber mats. Each Mopar set lasted about 2 years. The weather tech mats (so far) have not demonstrated this issue so I believe these are much better. The only issue is that I have only been using...
By thin, I mean in comparison to the Mopar rubber floormats that I had in my KJ previously. The Mopar mats were about 1/3" thick in some spots but still wore through.
The weathertech mats show no sign of wear through.
I have a set of the grey colored weathertech mats for my KJ (front only.) Overall the mats are a perfect fit for the footwell of my KJ with the 45RFE and have a nice lip on the sides to keep salt water from spilling out onto the carpet. If I had any complaints it would be that the plastic was...
There were some pilot runs of the 42RLE before the "switch" so it seems as if your truck was one of the few that received the 42RLE as a test of the manufactuing process changes.
the April deadline should still be valid as a identifier of when the "shorter springs," revised power steering...
Sounds like you had a fluid pump failure and then exploded the torque converter... but it's an automatic transmission and there are a lot of things that could have failed.
Any ideas??
To do this you'll need all the computer components, front driveshaft, TC, transmission and the...
13 bolts and it's got the stronger transmission (45RFE) out of the dodge ram.
15 bolts and it's got the more common (42RLE) out of....
Transmission Numbers Decoded:
4 = # of forward speeds
5 = 1 -10 scale on how much torque the trans can handle,1 being the lowest

Hyed,
I paid like $22.00 for the seal and for 1 hours worth of labor.
Drain and refill of the fluid in the diff (75w-140)
and the total came to $138.xx
Hyed,
We seem to have similar issues (about the same time) with our KJ's. First the radiator and now this...
My front pinion seal was just replaced yesterday.... [this thread made me look at my front diff] and I also swapped out the original transmission pan for a new one. [the...
