    NAPA outer tie rods?

I suspect the NAPA Chassis Parts tie rod ends are Mevotech. They have blue boots and are Made in Taiwan. Hmmm, should I worry? MOOG Problem Solver better?

    struts and forks

Just replaced tie rod ends, lower ball joints and hub bearings. I see the struts are rust buckets. What brand is good, KYB? Monroe? Are the forks strong enough to use, even though they look fairly pitted? Are new ones available? Part number? And, if I can find new ones, do they usually come out...

    NAPA outer tie rods?

I am going to replace the lower ball joints in the 03 Liberty 4x4 this weekend. I bought MOOG K3199 ball joints (USA made) from Rock Auto. Got them, and they look great. After looking at the rusty nut and threads on the outer tie rod ends, I decided to get new outer tie rod ends as well. Just...

    lower ball joint boots

My local dealer told me I'd have to drop it off to see if it qualifies for the recall (it would be the second replacement, apparently). Two appointments needed. He told me recalls are 'lifetime', but not sure how many times they will replace the same parts. One more set should last as long as we...

Hub bolts (the 3 E14), need threadlocker?

I did not see anything in either the service manual or online mentioning the need for Loctite on the hub bearing bolts. I torqued them to 96 ft lbs, should threadlocker be used on these? Thanks!

    lower ball joint boots

While replacing the hub bearing, I noticed the left lower ball joint boot has cracked and is leaking. I see there was a recall, done in 2006 on this vehicle by previous owner. Does Chrysler replace them again, or are we on our own with replacement? Also, I think I caught it in time, and the...

    E14 hub bearing bolt torque

About to change a hub bearing on 03 Liberty. Service manual states bolt torque to be 96 ft lbs, but online video says 50 ft lbs. It's for the three E14 torx bolts. 96 seems like a lot, does anyone know which is correct? Thanks!

muffler to converter flange nut torque

I just replaced the muffler and tailpipe on my son's 2003 Liberty and was wondering about the torque listed in the service manual. They state 21 ft lbs for the nuts (M10-1.5). I thought that was excessive, as a matter of fact, the converter flange almost touches the muffler flange at even 15 ft...

    Noisy p/s pump - foaming - leak - Cardone?

noisy again I was thinking of trying Blue Devil Power Steering Stop Leak before I pull the reservoir off and replace the o-ring. Anyone try it? It has mostly good reviews. Also, can the reservoir be removed to replace the o-ring with the pump still installed on the vehicle?

    Noisy p/s pump - foaming - leak - Cardone?

seems better now that I purged the air I purged out a lot of air bubbles, and then added a little fluid (was at the cold minimum when Jeep was warmed up). Drove it, and its MUCH better! Don't think the steering has been this quiet since my son bought it. Guessing whoever put the pump on may not...

    Noisy p/s pump - foaming - leak - Cardone?

2003 Liberty - noticed fluid at the outside bottom of the reservoir, and looks very much like it's coming from between the pump and reservoir. Cleaned it off and Im going to see if I can tell exactly where the fluid is coming from, because it drips a bit onto the high pressure line and that is...

    p/s noisy and foaming

Just started the '03 Liberty and p/s pump is noisy. It's 30 degrees outside. Looked in the reservoir and its foamy, but level was ok a few weeks ago. I suspect its sucking in air. Wondering which hose is failing, or doe these pumps have a filter that clogs? Anyone have this happen? Thanks.

    Engine 'Restore' in 3.7L

Thanks. It has about 124K. I replaced the pcv in the spring and it seemed to use way less oil. Thanks again for the info!

    Engine 'Restore' in 3.7L

Seems the Liberty uses a little oil, about a quart in 5000 miles (which is not much). I have used Restore in my older Fords with great success; has anyone used it in the 3.7L? Thanks!

    metric brake fittings?

Yeah, my first clue was the metric nut hex. Had to buy metric flare wrenches. Then noticed the 3/8-24 nut threaded in way too loose for my liking. Got to admit, the '99 F150 is the newest vehicle I've worked on, besides the Liberty. I had no idea they were no longer SAE. Funny, the F150 had...

    hood release feel

lube fixed it I sprayed lubricant between the latch housing and release lever, fixed it nicely. I have sprayed it (generally) before with no real change. You need to get the lube in between the release lever pivot points. What happens is this lever gets stiff, probably from dirt, corrosion...

    hood release feel

Thanks. I think I see what causes this, though. The lower spring is the tension you feel when you pull the hood release. Either the release lever at the latch is sticking or the spring is binding. Since it feels stiff to use, I'm betting on the lever sticking. Some lube should do the trick. I...

    hood release feel

I have always noticed the hood release feels stiff (bought Liberty used), and it releases at the end of the stroke (or, pull, I guess you'd call it). I've tried other Libertys and they feel more precise, not so difficult to release. I lubricated the latch, it looks good. Not sure why this...

    metric brake fittings?

My 1999 Ford F150 is SAE (3/8-24). I didn't know metric was so common for newer brake fittings. Oh well, now I know.
