So I kind of knew this was coming...

I just changed the rear disks and pads on my '05 Renegade (39k miles). The pads were completely gone and the disks were disintegrating. The only machined portions left was about a 3/4 " band part way around the disk. I can't believe that it stopped at all or didn't make a racket. The total...

    Painting My Skids...

They'd get all scratched up, but they would be battle scars.....a good way to show everyone that you're not afraid to take it offroad;)

Problem Changing Fluid in Transfer Case

I like the way you think.....we must be related!:) I'll have to try some of the suggestions. It's strange that the allen key seats about 3/8" into the drain plug, but only about 3/16" into the fill plug. It almost looks like the fill plug is defective. I'll keep you guys posted...

Problem Changing Fluid in Transfer Case

I tried this in the How-To section, but didn't get a response, so I thought I would try it here. I went to change the fluid in my transfer case, but I couldn't get the fill plug out. It looks like someone already tried, because the 10mm allen wrench didn't fit as well/snug as in the drain...

HOW TO: Change Transfer Case Fluid

I went to change the fluid in my transfer case, but I couldn't get the fill plug out. It looks like someone already tried, because the 10mm allen wrench didn't fit as well as in the drain plug. I only have 38,000 miles, but I just purchased it (2005 Renegade), and I would like to start with a...

No start... or crank for that matter

I'm not sure if these will fit the bill, but ebay has a bunch of Libby computers for anywhere from $50-$300. Hope this helps. http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=jeep+liberty+computer&_sacat=See-All-Categories Bruce

Is there anything that you can put on after they are clean to protect them? I was thinking of Scotch Guard. Thanks, Bruce

What power upgrades do you recomend?

I am no Jeep expert, but I feel that the 3.7 is fine for its intended purpose of city / highway driving and some off road excursions. It doesn't seem that you would need that much more power off road. I also don't think you would want too much more power on the road. I have a Mustang...

How much have you towed with your manual tranny?

The Libby I just purchased for towing is an automatic, but I do have a lot of experience towing with a Dakota v-6 manual, which is pretty close to the Libby in towing capacity. The limiting factor is to make sure that the weight of the trailer does not exceed the weight of your tow vehicle...

    Trailer Hitch

I looked at the U-Haul hitch. It says that it is class III, but it is 350 tongue / 3500 total weight. It is 500 / 5000 with weight distribution. This would certainly be enough for me. I have a Reese weight distribution set up. Plus, the max i will tow is a 2500# car on a 1000# trailer. The...

    Differential Fluid Question

I agree! I'll purchase the synthetic and give the five quarts of dino that I have on the shelf to my son for his '95 Suburban. Bruce

    Differential Fluid Question

Thanks for the info. I guess where I was confused, was when I read that API spec GL-5 was needed. I looked at the dino gear oil I had, and it said GL-5, so I thought I was all set. I'm going to let it sit on the shelf, and go out and get synthetic with the GL-5 spec. Bruce

    Differential Fluid Question

Doesn't the manual say to use GL-5? Is synthetic mandatory, or just extra insurance? Is 80w/90 okay versus 75w/90? Thanks in advance! Bruce

    Differential Fluid Question

I've got a question for you experts. The recommended fluid is 75w/90 GL5 fluid. I already have 5 quarts of Valvoline 80w/90 GL5 sitting on my shelf. Do you think it will be a problem to use it? It doesn't seem like it would be an issue. Thanks, Bruce

    Auto Trans Filter Question

Thanks to everyone for the information. I guess that Advance Auto had the wrong listing for the 2005 (it had 15 holes - 45RFE?). I just picked up the one listed for a 2006 and it has 13 holes, so should be the correct one for the 2005 - 42RLE. Unfortunately, the correct one was $31.99 versus...

    Auto Trans Filter Question

Hello, I want to change the trans fluid on my recently purchased 2005 Liberty Renegade. It has the v-6 with the Command Trac tranny. I went to Advance Auto and the filter kit that they came up with was a Pro-King part # FK-319. I opened it up and it has a gasket with 15 holes which appears...
