It's sort of working... the ecu is struggling to see it, if the hard reset doesn't work then look at the wiring I'd guess you have a corroded connection somewhere. Also stick with genuine Bosch sensors if possible, there's a lot of cheap junk available...
A strange fault, without either sensor a CRD won't run, but it does! Try giving it a hard reset, take the battery lead off overnight.
Check all the wiring and connectors on the cam sensor, might be a bit of corrosion somewhere
The hard starting is probably a worn injector. Do a spillback test...
The wiring diagrams should be in the manuals, I think the setup sends a low level signal to the amps, much like an after market car audio amp. The original amplified speaker are 2 Ohm so fitting replacement 4 Ohm speakers will drop the output a bit.
That's a shame, as U2slow says, it might be worth removing and fitting a couple of plugs into the grease holes, a bit of a fiddle to re-grease but not a frequent job.
I wouldn't grind the pockets out unless weld more metal in to extend them, they are a nice ridged box designed to carry the load...
Interesting, looks like a well known issue with a recall for some cars
