Quick update. I called Conrad's Auto Salvage in Mondovi WI about the used Draw-Tite front TJ/YJ hitch they have. They're obviously focused on counter sales and not mail order - they wanted $100 for shipping which seems unreasonable to me. At $160 total that's still the least expensive option out...
I don't know about that WO180. Who makes it? I don't see anything with that number on Rock Auto's parts list. I would avoid it if I were you. I like the MOTORCRAFT FL400S - made by Ford and has a good reputation for it's build quality and materials and it should be readily available - I usually...
Some early KJs had the Dana 35 rear diff which is inferior to the Chrysler (Corporate) 8.25, so having the 8.25 is a good thing - I've read that it is equivalent to the Dana 44 which is also considered a good diff. The weak point in the Liberty drivetrain is the front Dana 30A diff - the...
Yep, those captive nut channels would be great to have. I wonder if you could buy them from ARB? I thought about fabricating something similar - my very basic welding skills could probably handle that.
Apologies for the stream-of-consciousness here but doing a lot of research and searching on this.
I found an old string on LostJeeps where they talk about putting a Curt YJ/TJ front hitch on a KJ:

The guy said they had to...
Conrad's Auto Salvage in Mondovi WI has what looks like a Draw-Tite front hitch for $60 off a 2004 Wrangler - tempting at that price but think I'll hold out for a Curt if I decide to pull the trigger.
Actually I now think the 31408 Curt hitch would be a better match for the KJ:

I don't have any dimensions but guesstimating where the shackle mount hoops (or whatever...
Oh, and here is a write up (thanks Kirk) of installing the now discontinued Reese front hidden hitch on a KJ:
https://kirkanddonna.com/kirk/2004/08/09/front-hitch-install/
As you can see this one uses 3 mounting holes on each side which would make it quite a bit stronger than the TJ/YJ one but...
So this is the TJ/YJ "hidden" hitch I'm considering for my KJ:
https://www.draw-tite.com/product/65048_front-mount-receiver
I like that one better than the Curt version since the shackle mounting points are on the very outside and there is a decent chance they'd stick out where the existing tow...
You can also make your own from off the shelf parts. I've done it for race cars but never my Jeep. I think you could put together something from these:
Edit - I had looked up M14 stuff but pretty sure the Liberty (at least my 02) is M12 - revising my wishlist as follows...
I'd like to install a front hitch on my 02 but don't want to hurt my approach angle so the low hanging Curt one won't work for me. The Hidden Hitch would have been perfect but they don't make it any more. I'd want it to exit the bumper behind the license plate and I'd just remove the licence...
yep, you're right ikuo78, regular right hand threads - I've worked on too many cars the last few years - I swear at least one of them had left hand threads, Ford? Subaru? Mazda?
Here is what I use to hold the pulley while I crank on the nut with an adjustable wrench:

Be aware that the big nut is reverse threaded - righty loosey, lefty tighty!!!
Also, store the clutch vertically - I...
I have not, but they're saying all the things I'd want to hear when buying an engine, and the price is right, as long as you have a good core to give them. The only thing I don't like is the rather stingy 3 month warranty. I'd search for reviews on independent review sites and if those look good...
I agree with Celticlady 100% here. Salvage engines and transmissions are a crapshoot - I've put 3 salvage engines in other vehicles and 2 of them failed within a couple of years. I rebuilt the original engine in my Liberty and it failed within 3000 miles - turned out the machine shop I used did...
You 100% have a Chrysler 8.25 and you definitely don't have a Dana 35. The 8.25 is a much stronger diff so this is good news. Hopefully you didn't buy that Dana 35 cover?
Agree on the gasket - a really nice thick rubber one comes in the WIX kit - I spent over an hour cleaning the old silicone off the pan flange and the transmission flange. I did put a thin smear of silicone on the pan flange to get the gasket to stick in position as I was having some issues...
Are you 100% sure it's a Dana 35? U2Slow figured out that Dana 35s only came on Liberties in 2002. If you have drum brakes I believe it would indicate you have an axle from a 2002. Can you post a photo of your differential?
When I searched recently it seemed like there was some confusion re what sump filter to use for the 45RFE transmission - some said the 4x4 filter was different than the 4x2 filter and others said they were the same. I just got my WIX transmission filter kit in the mail and it came with a really...
