Hi everyone,

Running a Jeep liberty KJ 2005 renegade here. Recently had a gurgling sound in my reservoir when revving and found out that the small intake pipe has a crack. Changed the tank and cap and refilled the coolant. Gurgling went away but seems like the upper hose has a leak that doesnt stop. Is it safe to swap the hose clamp with a screw clamp or it might crack the small intake pipe? Kindly see attachment

That nipple has a metal insert in it, you wont crush it with a screw clamp.

You shouldn't need to really get it that tight anyway. That little spring clamp must just be crappy.

Looks like an aftermarket tank - especially the hose clamp. Could be a weak or mishaped clamp (most likely), a mismatch between the outer diameter of the hose and the clamp (good potential), or the inner diameter is slightly too big for the tank nipple. Orrrr the hose material is trash and has softened from the proper coolant (doubtful). I know those tanks come with that hose. My original nipple cracked off of the tank and ruined one of my ignition coils.

The screw clamp should work, as long as you do not crank the F out of it. Hoses are soft and flexible for a reason. Ok, not too soft, especially on a suction line.

Is all this crap I wrote necessary? No, but I am eating a mini container of Hagen Daas coffee flavor in my car, parked at an Acme store. Plus I had a similar experience as you.

If I were you I'd replace that rad cap with the factory Mopar one. Not sure if that could be part of the problem but it was for me and many others on here.
