I posted another thread about the best things you've done to your Liberty, and wanted to give an opportunity for the opposite as well. What is the one thing you've done to your Liberty, that in hindsight was a complete waste of time and/or money? Or at least wasn't worth the effort? Help us newbies not make the same mistake. Thanks!

Depends on your definition of a waste... S**t parts that have no quality? Yea, mistake for sure. Never be afraid to spend the extra bucks to buy something of a higher quality, 'cause as the saying goes, "I'm too poor to be so cheap!"

Can't tell ya how many times that's been true to me.

Hmm..chasing a mysterious clunk by inspecting/removing/re-torquing every part I could think of instead of what it was...the rear lift gate latch striker adjustment...DUH!

Cheap parts definitely. I got greasable U-Joints from Napa that I'm about ready to replace again...maybe 30k miles later? Going with Spicer next.

My biggest waste was alignments. I lifted it then got it aligned... then I wanted more so I lifted it again and got it aligned... then I needed A-arms so I did that then got it aligned... sooo if I can say anything do what you want all at once! Don't question it just jack that sucker up high!

Chasing a clunk for a few years in the front that also sounded/felt like an out of balance tire at highway speeds...was getting tires rebalanced damn near monthly. Turned out to be the intermediate shaft.
Earlier on had a humming in 4WD that I thought was normal, then it progressed into a clicking. Bad CV on the front driveshaft.

Ya know, when I'm in 2WD and cruisin' along between 40-50 I get a decent hum, appears to be coming from the front but hard to pin point by ear which side.. I may go and swap the intermediate to see if that helps. Maybe Yukon makes one for the D30A? Or shit, I might just have to lift the sucker back up and re-check the CV's. Ugh.

Going aftermarket for a radiator. Under a year later I ripped it out and threw in a Mopar rad. Other than that I can't think of much else that was a waste. Although my wife may think I have wasted too much time with my Jeep LOL

Tried to chase down an annoying squeak for about 5 months before I finally changed out my speakers and discovered I was missing a few retaining clips on the driver's side door panel. Squeak went away once I fixed that.

Biggest waste of money wasn't really a waste, since I got to keep driving my Jeep, but I'd have to say the $350 I spent getting towed out of the woods. If I'd not been an utter idiot about things, I wouldn't have had to have spent it. :)

Made the decision 4 years ago to not trade it in and buy a Wrangler when the KJ had 90K miles and instead dropped $10K+ into the Liberty over the next 4 years. Put in cheap lift then went to JBA so that was a waste. And I still need a bumper/winch! Not sure its an overall waste of money though. I really enjoy the Jeep, its my only toy until I buy a 4-wheeler someday, and if I get a few more years of fun without needing a new engine/****** or other major repair its all good.

Well you've got a really great looking Liberty, for what it's worth.

Not buying an alarm before I parked on the street in Cleveland. It has cost me in more ways than I can count. In fact, 90% of the current problems in my life can be traced to that.

(I'll quit whining now.) ;)

I bought a used 2005 4WD KJ and found it was missing the front drive shaft. Every time I called the dealer I got the run around. The manager is on vacation, he's out to lunch, I'll have him call you back...yeah right. There was a clause in the contract that said it costs me $500 to return it. I figured it would be cheaper to purchase a drive shaft and put it in. The jeep chewed it up and spit it out the 1st time I tried it out. I was in the dirt, not on hard pavement.

Fixing a broken A/C. Alot of parts and pieces and money. Alot. In the end just did the A/C kit which fixed it. Should have done that in the first place.
