I have been searching for a while this morning and I just have not found what I am looking for. I have a stock 2003 Freedom Edition and I am looking for a replacement tire.

I want good wet traction, long wear, off road “ok”, I do not go off road very often and nothing that would get me in over my head, noise does not bother me as I do have a louder stereo system, I am on a budget of ballpark $500 for (4), less than that if at all possible, and I am looking for people that have found the above.

What tire have you found that matches the above that you have purchased a second set of or would purchase a second set of?

I have not had a 4x4 this light before. I had diesel trucks and really liked the Mastercraft Courser C/T’s. Those seemed to fit what I wanted back then, well, all but the mileage. I was getting around 45,000 miles on the diesels with the 35in tires.

My most important need is traction then mileage. Also, I do not want a tire that looks like it only belongs on the road, but on the flip side, I do not want a tire that looks like it belongs on a trail only rig. This is my daily driver with about 45 miles daily.

So, I’m thinking about the Mastercraft Courser AXT, the General Grabber AT2, and I have read good reviews of the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2.

General grabber AT2's will work the best and they will get you great traction and amazing mileage mine have about 80,000 on them and they are just about down to the wear bar. If you want them to last longer you can do a five tire rotation.

I run off road tires year around but they have the snow peak and M&S designation and actually work great on ice and in snow, However after a bunch of research it appears the Grabber AT2 would be a fantastic tire for an AT, I recommended a set to my brother on his GMC Canyon and he loves them, Never had any issues and they seem to last long.

Can't recommend Hankook Dynapro ATMs enough. 30k miles on them and they still look brand new.

I agree on the grabbers. Love mine on road but still able to off road. Not a deep stuff tire but that's what tow points are for.

Grabbers are great. I have a set of bridgestone dueller 697 at on mine after some kumho muds and very happy with performance on the road and on gravel and dry trails. I had them in the snow and they aren't too bad either.

The guys in Australia love them as an over landing tire

I got cooper discoverer atps from discount for about $600 they're 245s so a bit bigger and I'm out near Seattle stuff costs a bit more, not sure where you're located. They're a decent looking AT type tread, I've been happy with them in all road conditions. I'm running Bfg ATs on my truck and I've got like 35k miles on those and my rears still look at about 40-50%. Can't give you a cost comparison on those because they're 35s ha ha.

I have the optional 235/65 R17 tires/rims. I would like to go a little wider if at all possible. If that is possible, what tire size would I be looking at and would that add more cost than worth? I was just thinking wider would translate into more traction and stability. I would guess the trade off would be rolling resistance and possibly rubbing at full lock, but could I adjust the turn stop to limit the rubbing?

My 245 75 16s rubbed before the lift. Not sure if going wider but keeping the same sidewall height will rub or not.

Update

I purchased a set of Cooper Discoverer RTX in stock 235/65 R17. If you want to know what traction is, I highly recommend these! I do not have ABS and have had to hit the brakes pretty hard, on wet pavement, to keep from hitting a guy that did not care that I was already in my lane. He wanted to be there and I just knew I was going to plow into him. My Jeep did not so much as slide. I actually let up off the brake because I was going to stop nowhere near hitting him! Plus, these gave me a much more stable feeling, almost sports car handling in the corners! I have cornered much harder than I ever have before and something happened since purchasing these tires. I came out of a corner and felt something funny. It almost felt like the Jeep set back down as if the inside tire had been off the ground. That felt really strange and gives me the feeling that I will roll the Jeep before it slides...I do not want to find the limit! Anyway, so far these are some of the best tires I have ever had. Time will tell though. And it was $635 for everything! All 4 tires, mounted, balanced (with lifetime balancing), new valve stems, old tire disposal fees, alignment (with 1 year warranty), road hazard, and taxes! It was more than I wanted to spend, but quality was worth it. And it was the least expensive place I could find them for.

My Liberty came with Dextero DH2 (WalMart tire). They were brand new, and honestly were very good tires. They have 30k miles, including some very very rough off-road miles. I have completely neglected these tires, haven't balanced or rotated them once.

They are great in the rain, handle very well, and honestly did damn good in mud and on rocks (for what they are, a highway all season tire). Also performed very well in light and deep (two feet) snow. I am replacing them with a better A/T tire, but could probably make them last another 5-10k miles. Not a bad tire for $80 each.

I have Dueler A/T REVO, down to half tread in about 20K miles. I would NOT recommend them if you want to get some miles. Traction they are fair, and I've lost one to a roofing nail that went through the sidewall. It's not like the Liberty gets driven hard at all - mostly pavement with a little off road - but no place I haven't taken a 2WD pickup. I normally get at least the tire rating on my vehicles if not more but these will probably be about 2/3 their rating.

The Revo 2 despite being Bridgestones multi-million dollar baby of a tire is highly flawed. I would know, I worked for the company and had a lot of complaints about that tire. It is not recommended for 3/4 ton trucks or heavier which also excludes a huge list of SUV's with that matching curb weight. You have to rotate that tire every 3k miles or they chop up on the shoulders real bad. They wear down really fast due to the dual layer rubber compound that they brag about. I prefer to sell the Destination A/T's which I have, leagues better A/T tire than the Revo 2. I have a long list of customer who would say the same thing, actually had a customer over the week who agreed with me how well the Destination A/T's are and it was coming from his own experience with them. Of course I also loved the Dueler 695's which I think have now been discontinued, that was a great A/T tire. Now if you want a bullet proof A/T tire, Duravis M700's and if you take care of them, will last a long time.
