It's cost you WAY more to put in a CRD in my opinion. I'd just get the '02 engine you have rebuild if you can't find one.

Suspension is different, I believe the front half of the drivetrain is different.

Yeah I'd imagine that would be even more expensive than converting a 2wd to 4wd.

I'd assume you would need the CRD engine, transmission, fuel components, HD suspension...maybe if you found one being parted out :).

I was thinkin of this the other day.. that gas mileage and extra torque sounds lovely, but the cost for all of that.. ack.

if someone lays down the money to do the swap, create a how-to and the money spent lol

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Basically you would need a complete(and un-damaged) KJ CRD to swap the whole powertrain and almost the complete wiring harness along with most of the suspension components and the whole fuel system(including fuel tank and lines).

Pretty much cheaper to buy another vehicle or buy a remaned engine for your '02(you'd save about 50%-75% buying a remaned engine over trying to do a CRD swap).

I always wanted to do something like this, and I did, the best and easiest/cheapest way to swap from a V6 to a CRD engine is to swap cars..

I'm in the process of swapping over all my mods from the petrol to the CRD KJ, then I'll sell the petrol one.

Yeah anything can be done but the amount of parts needed to do this swap is staggering and you pretty much need a complete(un-damaged) donor vehicle.

The last two 2.8 CRD TJ swaps Burnsville Offroad cost well over $40,000 to do the swap,it's not a simple by any means.Converting a 2wd to 4wd is like learning to crawl and doing the 2.8 CRD swap is like running the 1 mile in 4mins flat.
