Hi folks,

No manual in front of me. How difficult is it to replace a set of warped front rotors with new ones? I am a skilled motorcycle mechanic, but don't know much about 4 wheeled vehicles. The KJ is a 2002 LTD with 4WD.

Thanks!

Emoto - Pretty easy really. After you remove the caliper assembly (have some wire handy, don't let it hang by the brake line) the rotor will pull off the hub pretty easy. Although, you might have to give it a few convincing whacks to break loose any rust that has accumulate between the rotor and hub. Use a piece of wood, or a shot filled plastic mallet, to whack it with if you plan on re-using the rotor.

Thanks very much! I've a whole drawer full of "persuaders". \:D/

Anything exotic about pulling the calipers? I assume they just bolt on, right?

You shouldn't have to do the drums right now. Or for some time to come for that matter. Those things usually last a long long long long time....unless you ride around with the e-brake on the whole time.

The old standard for drum brakes was to check them every second time you replace the front disk pads. Just pull the drum cover off and check the wear/blow out all the brake dust.

They are not hard to change. It's alot easier if you get the two special tools for drum setups. A spring compressor and a spring "spoon" tool. These brakes scared me at first but if you take digital pics of the brakes *before* you take them apart and go slow they are pretty easy. The e-brake part can be a real PITA!
