Had the same issue, few months back, turned out to be the rear CV joint of the front drive shaft . Made a very tin-y pinging noise when in 4x4 and nothing in 2 wheel drive.

Hi all, a first timer here , so pls go easy :emotions34: Start of the winter , my 05 KJ 2.7 CRD , which has always been a perfect starteer, started sputtering out after initially starting (first time) in the cold weather. Would be a pain to get it going but , when it did finally get going...
