Hi all, a first timer here , so pls go easy :emotions34:

Start of the winter , my 05 KJ 2.7 CRD , which has always been a perfect starteer, started sputtering out after initially starting (first time) in the cold weather. Would be a pain to get it going but , when it did finally get going, would run and stop / start perfectly all day .

Trip to garage, revealed a bunged up fuel filter, which was changed and the problem went away. Back to perfect first time starts all through the winter.

Now, the problem seems to have returned, yesterday, and today , not particularly cold overnight -2/5 but symptoms are the same, starts first time, runs for 5-10 seconds , then sputters out. Had to use a bit of fast start :favorites68: this morning just get school run done.

Again, once running it can sit for 7-8 hrs outside work and start first time on the way home, which was the symptoms as previous ... surely can't be the filter again, can it ?

Any comments would be helpful

Air in fuel is common. Try pumping the pump on the filter housing and then use the bleedscrew on the filter housing to bleed the air out. Pump it up again and try to start.

What kind of glow plugs do you have? The metal replacements aren't as effective in the cold as the original ceramics which can break and eat your engine.

Green Diesel Engineering has a new tune designed to start better in the cold, for Bosch 5 volt glow plugs.

Any codes?
