You can't diagnose any issues with the transmission internals until you get the Mercon out and AT+4 in since we don't know what issues the Mercon is causing. New or reman racks are fairly cheap but the labor to replace one is definitely not. Sounds like you're at that point though - hope that fixes the issue.- Shankster

First thing I would do is trace the hoses and just make sure nothing is kinked or twisted (I know the mechanic already did that but worth double checking). If everything looks good I think I would either remove and check the hoses for a restriction or just replace the hoses if they weren't...- Shankster

I think I finally figured this out: I pulled both drums off for inspection. I verified that the shoes are in the correct position (the front one has a smaller friction plate area). My backing plates are not grooved. My right side adjuster lever seems to be contacting the star wheel properly...- Shankster

Hopefully it's just the new diff breaking in? Since you probably want to change the fluid after break in (1000 miles??) you'll be able to look things over when you have the diff cover off. Maybe get some gear marking compound and check that the pattern on the ring gear is good? If not you can...- Shankster

I searched and searched for adjuster levers with a similar profile to what was originally on there and couldn't find anything. Cherokee adjusters for the 10" drums (only on Police, USPS etc vehicles) do look very similar but the hole at the end where it goes over the stud is oriented differently...- Shankster
