Just had this happen in my 2003 Liberty. It would run fine for an unpredictable amount of time, then stutter like it was starving for gas. The tack would jump all over the place like described in the OP, the engine would stutter then usually die. I pulled all the fuses I could find to check them...

I get the same noise and was going to post about it as well. It really does sound like ZZZZzzzzzz! Almost as if something is being over "spun". Hopefully it's just the power steering pump getting primed and not the starter sticking and being over reved. N
