What did you do to your jeep today?

I finally got my transmission oil changed... The shop that I had to take it to - to remove the plug - couldn't get it out with their snap-on extractor set. He had to heat it up with an electric heating element and then wack it with 3 different metal punches. It turned 1/8th of a turn every...

    Stripped Transmission Drain Plug

Success But not my success... I Took it to my Jeep Mechanic (the one I trust with doing brake work since I dont trust myself in that area), and he was able to extract it... Funny story: their extractor didn't work... just spun and spun and never dug in. They had to use an electric heating...

    Stripped Transmission Drain Plug

Update: Well, I finally had 2 days in a row that had good weather and that I was off of work. So I applied the JB Weld to the allen wrench and to the socket, smushed them together, made sure there was no JB Weld under the head so it would go in as far as possible... and then I waited 24 hours...

ABS light on, no cruise control, yes horn

ohhhh... I might have a solution for you right there then... in 2005 they put a bladder in the passenger seat as an occupancy sensor. the airbag will fire if occupied, wont if it isn't. When I swapped 2003 seats into my 2005, I had to swap the bladder INTO the older seats. That plug may be the...

ABS light on, no cruise control, yes horn

I just went thru this mess with my XJ. Not quite the same, but very similar: thrown code for undervolt on TPS. The kinda crazy thing is that all the systems your describe (except the horn) share the same ground. And the horn shares the clock-spring connection. Its all interrelated... which makes...

crashed my 2007 KJ - should I get another KJ or KK?

you say you wrecked your KJ... if you get another KJ AND if you kept your wrecked one, now you have a donor vehicle - that is something to consider. On the other hand, if you are just looking for a fairly capable vehicle, with low maintenance costs and your aren't going to do any lifting or...

P0306 did I cause from flushing heater core

Why is that? I don't have issues with the heater core in either of the jeeps I own. However, after a quick google search, I can find many articles, tips, suggestions, and procedures for flushing a heater core (including ones specific to jeeps) and its benefits, but I can't find any other...

    Trouble Starting When Warm?

Not sure if its applicable, but I have an XJ and they are notorious for this issue - its called heat soak. The gas in the injector rail gets too hot after your turn the motor off when there is no active cooling and the gas vaporizes. Its similar to the old 80's phenomenon of vapor-lock, but...

What would you do from here?

Seriously good find on a 2002 with less than 100k miles. Bought a 2005 this summer with 130k. Most people will tell you they prefer the older years because of the lack of electronics added in later years - with the '05 being at the end of the "good years". The big question you need to ask...

    New Owner Musts

Perhaps a "New Owner Check-List" or "...Musts" would be a good sticky in either the New Members Forum or perhaps the How-To? I came into my KJ ownership with eyes wide open because I had an XJ. Not everyone has that special kind of torture available to them. There are plenty of people who could...

    Stripped Transmission Drain Plug

I didn't realize the SteelStick would set up like that. What does the SteelStick need to cure/dry? Its going to be cool the next few days is why I ask. Does heat help accelerate curing or just airflow in general, etc... ?

    Stripped Transmission Drain Plug

Good site! I just sent them an email since they didn't have anything specific to the transmission. This is a part I'd spend money on because it will make my job easier next time I need to change the transmission oil (fixing the root cause of the problem as well)... and I don't have to store it...
