Ok, after diagnostics from a local garage, this appears to be a bad ecu. It only occurs when extremely heat soaked, then the throttle does not respond. What kind of cost would I expect? Almost certainly will be trading this car in as it is becoming very costly.

^ sorry, i wrote that on my phone and was a little lazy. I meant right side as i look in the bay (from the front). It is currently being diagnosed locally.

Thanks, I'll bear it in mind, maybe try a deep clean of the old injector. However, the jeep runs great, lots of power smooth tickover, then at a repeatable 20min point it suddenly throws the check engine light and only then does it refuse to accelerate. Here is more info, the CEL was flashing...

Jeep is 2004 3.7 4x4. I used aftermarket parts, but really can't believe any combination of things could cause exactly the same issue.

Thanks. A bit clueless and ready for a jeep dealer diagnostic for $99. Are there any wiring diagrams available? It does sound like the timing was ********... But why only the cylinder 1 code? Anything to do with it being the first cylinder the fuel gets to on the rail?

Thanks, I have only done visual connection checks. You think I should ring them out? Also, as this is an intermittent "hot only" problem, it makes wiring checks difficult

Hi, I replaced a fuel injector on my 3.7, which involved removing the right hand fuel rail. Upon reassembly, I found the retaining clips very difficult to position, ensuring I had the rail tab slotted into the clip. Is there a trick to it? Has anybody got a tip for a tool to use? Thanks...

Yes. It certainly feels like that's the case. Do you have a good guide on injector removal and change? I may just go buy one for $47 rather than doing the whole swap around.

Ok, there was nothing obvious on the coils or injector connectors. The spark plug was very black with soot. I replaced the spark plug and swapped coils between cylinders 1 and 3. If the issue moves to cylinder 3 I know it's the coil. If I get no more trouble, I blame the old plug. If the...

Thanks for the help. I'll dig into that stuff, maybe even swap parts to another cylinder. My spark plugs are a couple of years old. They are worth a look.

Well, I cannot replicate it or find/induce any problems at the coil. My wife drove it today and on a slightly longer journey it started playing up, misfiring code 201 and just very rough. Has anybody heard of this issue? I worry it is something with the ecu.
