2010 Jeep Liberty TIPM

My grandson just got his license and his first car is a 2010 Liberty. It has a few issues. We have worked through many and are now thinking we need a new TIPM (based upon computer analysis and you tube).

Here is the issue: Although the Jeep is a 2020, the TIpM currently in it has a 2020 date on it. (Photo included).

How do I know that this is the correct TIPM? I am concerned that it was replaced at some point (perhaps just to get it sold) and what we really need is a different TIPM than this one.

Operational symptoms are no horn, passenger airbag occupant sensor and battery drain. We have already replaced the clock-spring.

Anyone know of a data base that can show the part number for the original TIPM at manufacture?

Will appreciate some coaching. I have a Thinkcar diagnostic computer and it has been a lot of help.

Hmmm, that is suspicious to have a 2020-manufactured unit in a 2010 Jeep. Perhaps Jeep has had so many TIPM problems over the years that they were still making them?

I don't have a 2010 parts manual, but if you could get your hands on one, I would recommend checking the part number that would have been there originally. It might have been superseded by a new part number, which may or may not match what you have in there now.

For reference, the part number for my 2008 TIPM is 04692235AC.

I really didn’t register the date on the now installed TIPM until I started looking for a new one and found that the part number for the one I have is somewhat rare and that different part numbers (yours being one of them) show up when I search for the TIPM online.

I am going to see if Jeep Corporate can/will help me out.

I found your part number on one of the Mopar parts sellers, and it does come up as working for your 2010 Liberty.

It should be compatible. But it probably has to be programmed by the dealer.

Perhaps your TIPM is actually working and your symptoms are two separate issues. Both could be caused by bad grounds or loss of connectivity because of broken/corroded wires. Check the horn fuse also.

Bad TIPMS usually cause problems with the door locks and the windshield wipers, and you haven't mentioned those.

I will be checking those out. I know the door locks are fine but we did have a wiper issue. Other than that, just the horn, the battery drain and the passenger side airbag occupant sensor. I sent a note to keep to see what they say.

I am aware of the programming issue and will be doing that once I am sure I have the correct TIPM. The TIPM repair shops reprogram to the VIN (they are typically either fix yours or exchange).
