Here's what happened: I bought this car a year ago, and after driving it for 2400km (1500 miles) on the highway back home, I already found that the cruise control function was not working. When I activated the cruise control by the button on the steering wheel as instructed in the manual, the cruise indicator light on the dashboard came on, but as soon as I let go of the accelerator, the vehicle started to slow down as if there was no cruise control and could not maintain speed.
I know that ABS and wheel speed sensor failures can cause the cruise control to be inoperable, but my vehicle is not equipped with ABS (at least that's what the OBD tells me, and the ABS light has never come on during my dashboard self-test). The current stable failure is that the tire pressure monitor on the right rear wheel is offline, causing the tire pressure fault light to stay on. Are there other reasons why I can't use my cruise control?

Try lifting your brake pedal a bit when you engage and see if it works, if so its the brake pedal sensor (it normally disengages cruise throttle when the brake is touched)

if that isnt it could be the servo for the throttle control that cruise uses or maybe even the fuse for the system is blown

So I bought my KJ back in 2010. It is a 2004. I bought it from a small dealer who had some body work done to it before I got it. The cruise control would not work. He and I both looked at it and neither of us could figure it out. He knocked off $100 off the price and I drove it from Ohio to Florida.

Getting down to Florida one day I decided to look at it again.

......
The cruise control cable wasn't connected to the throttle lever!

I hooked it up and it has been working fine ever since.

If it's a circuit issue, will an OBD check display a corresponding code?
My fuel pump circuit breaker blew out last month, so I ran several OBD checks. So far, no codes related to cruise control have appeared.

Maybe I should check the wiring.
My vehicle had its front bumper repaired. But as far as I know, it's never been significantly repaired.

Kind of a dumb question but did you press both the cruise button AND the set button?

Yes, I follow this principle: At 60 mph, I press the cruise switch, so the light on the dash comes on, then press the set switch and release the throttle.
I also have an MK Compass and follow basically the same procedure (just the button location is slightly different).

If you check the brake switch and the cruise control cable and they both come out good, maybe the set button in the steering wheel went bad. Though that would be a pain to test. Taking apart the steering wheel is always risky

In fact my horn button has some loose contact—occasionally it won't work, so there might be something wrong with the steering wheel wiring.
Maybe it's time to replace the steering wheel assembly.
