Hi guys, new here, looks like good site. Just bought 06 CRD and as you all know, cold up here in Canada, anyways love that little Jeep but blowing barely warm air, did some investigating but always rely on experience with this kinda thing. Should I replace thermostat assembly or could it be something else I'm unaware of.? Gauge fluctuates during normal operations more as it works harder, to be expected, out side temp. is 34 F + - average right now.

Heater core could be partially blocked, thermostat will cause it as well though
Is it full of HOAT antifreeze ?

Also LOSTJEEPs has a whole section on the CRDs , lots of great info

TURBO-DIESEL-FREAK offers an expensive thermostat housing that allows cheap easy thermostat replacement.

The $170.00 OEM thermostat is junk.

There are ways to modify the OEM housing to accept the working internal parts so don't just throw your old housing in the trash.

I made mine produce heat by putting it in 4wd, locking out the overdrive, and driving like a maniac for a few miles. Not my usual driving style on ice and snow.

When was the timing belt changed? That's the biggest bogeyman on these things. Also, replace the ceramic glow plugs if they're still in there and replace them with 5 volt metal glow plugs. They won't work as well as the ceramics but they won't eat your engine either.

LOST Jeeps has the most info on the Liberty CRDs.

Being Canadian has its disadvantages about getting parts but I like your ideas and sounds like you have had some experiences today I ran into another curveball . I went for a drive on the logging road along Harrison Lake got to a boat launch area and the Lake was low I was going to go check out the Shoreline went to put it in high four-wheel-drive and the cable came disconnected or broken in the transmission so only had 2 Wheel Dr. sadly I was able to get out of there and have an appointment to get that checked out in the morning pissed off but could’ve been worse could’ve been stranded by being stuck anyway thanks for your comment I appreciate that and I’ll let you know what happen with the cable once they get in there and have a look I do love the jeep I’ve had to Jay case but love the idea of the diesel I want to get it deleted as well The jeep has 175,000 km on it I hear they go along way the previous owner told me the timing belt was done but do not have a receipt for that but receipts for everything else how much does it cost to change out the timing belt?

I think ID-Parts has a $400. kit but it needs a few special tools and a fussy process. Water pump replacement is a good idea since they might not last two belts. Belts are maxed at 100,000 miles or 6-7 years installed.

Give your CRD a good warm up and a few minutes spin down time before shut off and your head and turbo will thank you.

Lots of mods can be done to help keep the engine together. The gentleman with the fabulous thermostat housing is Canadian like yourself.

Your transfer case cable might be an easy fix. Mine hasn't broken yet so do a search and the fix will show up.
