hello I have a 2005 Jeep liberty and recently the speedometer stopped working I took it to a shop and they fixed the speedometer but now my cruise control does not work any idea what it could be I'm thinking maybe they put the wrong speed sensor in it but I don't know much about those

The cruse control DOES monitor the speed of the car and it may sample the speed pulses coming off the speedometer.... What did they do to "repair" the speedometer... say if they ran another wire from the speed sensor to the speedo the old wire may have had a splice in the middle of that run that also fed the cruse...

When I got my KJ I had to rewire the harness to the transmission and transfer case... I did find wires spliced into wires in the middle of the harnesses using the same signal/power feeds...

On my rebuilt salvage 2006 I had a vacuum line that was leaking going to the cruse control servo that is used to pull on the throttle body linkage...
Also any ABS sensor or speed sensor can/will cause the cruse to drop out...

I would be looking in the areas where they did the repairs for wiring problems or disturbed connectors or hoses...

Is this a CRD or Gasser? There is a difference in how cruise control between the two works. The speed sensor sits on the rear diff....if the speedo works you would expect the cruise control to work but as stated above the Mechanics may have disturbed something or replaced some wiring.

All 2005 KJs have a TSB whereby the rear diff was filled at factory with the incorrect oil...this oil chewed up the sensor. Fix was for the Dealers to drain and clean the rear diff, fill up with correct oil and replace the sensor. Maybe this is why your sensor failed?

Depending on if it is a CRD or Gasser the Brake switch is relevant or there could be failure in the Clock Spring under the steering wheel boss.

We may need to climb into the wiring diagrams.:(

It sounds like a wiring nightmare I may just say screw it and live with it

Download the 2005 Jeep KJ Service Manual.

Section 8P explains how the Speed Control works.
Section 8W has the Wiring Diagrams.

Note that the 3.7 Gasser uses vacuum to operate Speed Control so look out for vacuum pipe pulled off or damaged.

CRD uses an electrical servo.

Gasser the speed control is stopped by the switches on the steering wheel hence the reference to the Clock Spring. Speed control is also stopped if brake pedal is pressed. There are three switches inside the brake switch one of which is for stopping Cruise Control.
The brake switch cannot be removed and placed back into place..if removed then a new brake switch has to be fitted.
