Hey there, noob here. Just got my 2006 liberty 3 months ago and it seems to be running great. Just hit 79000 miles and just did new spark plugs since old ones were toast. Put auto lite copper tops and it seems to run better but my mpg still stinks! Just wondering if there is something wrong or maybe the mpg I'm getting is something I should get used too? My display says I'm averaging 13.5-14 mpg and I do 75% city and 25% highway and don't have a heavy foot. Any insight?

Sounds about like what I get with 75/25 city/hwy. Best way to check though, is fill up and zero the trip odometer. Drive for at least 1/2 to 3/4 tank and then fill up. Divide the number of miles by the total gallons of gas, and you'll get a more accurate average.

Yeah, thats my next step. i need to do that. Seems to be running good. I also run the 17 inch rims though...maybe that hurts it?

The display has never been accurate for me I get about 16-17 mpg all around and my overhead display shows about 14 mpg.

Circumference = 2 x pi x radius

Bigger tires = bigger radius

Your Jeep's odometer counts how many times your tires go around and after that it's simple math to figure out how far you've gone. However, it is expecting tires of a certain circumference and yours are bigger. You are actually going farther with each revolution of the wheels than what it is calculating.

One way to get an accurate measurement is to track your distance with a GPS (like a Garmin, Tom-Tom, whatever). A good long trip is better, since a small difference might not be obvious over the course of a short trip.

If you don't have a GPS, find a highway with a sign telling you how far the next exit is and compare it to your dash readout. Again, the farther you go the better.

Another great point. I am forgetting all of the major factors here! I guess you would'nt guess i work in the automotive industry? haha

Overall, i like the jeep. I have the 2wd :( but its the limited and i love the leather seat. i paid 10k for it and its an 2006 with 79000 miles. Good deal?

I would say so, though obviously there are a lot of factors involved with any used vehicle. My 2007 (Sport, PT 4WD) only had 42,000 miles when I bought it a year ago and I paid $15,000. :cheers:

How do you know his tires are a bigger diameter? He never said his size.

(Note: Powerball next week will be 2, 15, 31, 7, 48 + 33) :Wedgie:

Actually, I inferred from his 17" wheels that they would be bigger than stock. :)
