Ive got the factory auto dimming mirrors and its got an antenna that comes down off of it. The lady i bought it from said it was for the homelink, in my old KJ i installed an evic and i know that the evic has the antenna built in so thats NOT what my antenna is for. Does anyone else have it and is it a remote start?

Well this morning I took a picture and noticed that it said "directed HF plus" which is a remote start system. Is this supposed to have a key or do u think that it could be programed into my key fob like the other post a few weeks ago?

Alright, TBJ, don't have to rub it in. I know I'm a bozo. Feel free to quote me on that.

Unless you're like, into that whole thing...

kboone, the fobs are available at the dealer - it's a separate fob with just one button on it, assuming it's a Mopar remote start system.
ThunderbirdJunkie honestly doesn't know much about the systems.

Sounds like it's a DEI (Directed Electronics) unit.

You should have a seperate fob. If not, you're going to have to find out where the "brain" is (probably down by the column, in the driver kick panel, or in the center console) and figure out which one you have and buy a fob of ebay and have it programmed.

You probably CAN have it run off the stock fob, but it'd have to be wired up and programmed to do so.

Fixed it for you. One of the IPs on the Squadron says his three best teaching tools are fear, intimidation and ridicule. Seems to work well, his students don't fail.

I am amazed at the number of people that found out that they have a remote start after purchasing the Jeep. If I had one and sold the Jeep, I'd let the dealership know so I get more $ out of the trade. I know a dealership would put a higher $ tag on the jeep if they knew...

Ya when I googled it there were a ton of results but I remember seeing directed electronics. Ill poke around in there tonight and see if I can find the brain. If I do, how hard will it be to have it run off my stock remote or if anyone has this what buttons do you push to make it work I'll try to do different button combos and see if it is already working on it.

If it's a directed box, try to get the model number off of it. From there you can get the wiring diagram.

If it was hooked up, it'd be a 1, 2, or 3 pulse sensor. So, you'd either hit the lock or unlock button 1, 2, or 3x's.

It shouldn't be hard to do. I don't think you can route it to the door lock wire (although maybe that would work) - you'd probably have to pull a door panel off and hook it to the lock post on the actuator.

Find out what kind first. The guys over at The12Volt.com should be able to help once we know what it is :)

Just to clarify, the add-on starters that use the factory Jeep fob will not have an antenna anywhere. They use the factory fobs...kopkrab.gif

Obviously you have an actual car starter that came with it's own fobs that were apparently lost sometime along the way. And I don't think you can program a non add-on starter (what you have) that came with it's own fobs to use the factory fobs like an add-on starter (what you do not have).

You'll probably have to look for replacement fobs.

Not necessarily true.

One has the option of using the DEI fob or the factory fob in some DEI systems. If the P.O. used a special fob, then the option still may be there to hook up the wire and use the factory fob.

To use the factory fob, most DEI units have a "remote sense" wire that you set to either look for "+" or "-" pulses and you set the number (1, 2, 3) like I mentioned earlier. Therefore, if his remote starter has this option, he can hook up the wire and program it and use it with stock fobs ;)
