I didn't paint where I have to weld the spring hangers on and I left an area for welding on the safety chains too.

I haven't done much to the trailer since I last posted. But I welded on the springs and I wired it up and everything works like it should. The spring hangers are wider than the 1.5" tube frame but I ran welds around the hangers and then did a couple more passes over each of them to make sure the welds would hold. I talked to the guy at the trailer shop about the hangers being wider than the frame and he said as long as I had good welds going around them, they would be good to go.


I don't think i posted the issues I was having with using stock jeep wheels, but the center hole on every stock jeep wheel I have come across is too small for the trailer axle hub to fit through. The hubs are 2.5" and the wheels hub hole is 2.25". The free wheels I got have a 2.75" diameter opening at the rear of the center hole, but it tapers to 2.25" at the front of the center hole which is .25" too small. I busted out my dremel tool and ground down part of one of the wheels and it looks like it will work, but the dremel isn't the right tool for the job. I went through 3 sand/grind pads on it and only ground down like 1/6 of the center hole. I my other buddy about borrowing his die grinder and aluminum bits to do the job. So we'll see how that goes.

I ran the wires down the inside of the trailer tongue and then out the back of it under the center and then used some corrugated wire tubing to cover it all up and then some plastic clamps to secure the tubes down. It worked out good I think. I used electrical tape to cover all connections and then used liquid electrical tape on top of that to keep them sealed.

Not exactly sure, but I am shooting for at least 1,000 pounds. It will have a 2,000 pound axle and the tub will only weigh around 400-500 pounds.

I'm pretty sure 25% is the legal limit for the front here....I kinda want a bit darker, but don't want a ticket....

They just did a news story here locally about how they were cracking down on window tint so I won't be pushing the limit, but I do want mine darker.


More on the trailer, sort of anyway.

I also painted the wheels and mounted the tires too.

How many cubic foot capacity is the box and how much does that

I'd have to measure and do the math, which I can do later for ya.

I'm also not sure what it weighs, but I can pick it up with the help of one other person.

Inc, that trailer looks like it will weigh all of 800lbs when it is done. It looks like it in the pics to me anyway. Especially with large tires and rims and the axle and springs. When you are done, see if you can get it on a truck scale and see.

I have a utility trailer I know weighs 800lbs. It is galvanized steel with wooden sides and bigger than yours dimensions wise (I think it is 5x9 or close to that) but the axle and wheels/tires are nowhere near the size of yours. Mine is rated for 2,000lbs load so that would be 2,800 gross.

Yours looks like it will be impossible to overload even with crushed stone in it.

That thing you got there is a brute.

I didn't get any measurements tonight for the trailer's capacity, but I did "finish" building it. I welded up the axle spring perches, bolted up the axle and took it out for a spin. I need to raise it up some. As of now the hitch I am using is like an 8" drop and the trailer tongue still rides high compared to the rear of the tub. So I need to come up with a solution for that. If my rear bumper didn't sit up so dang high it wouldn't be an issue, but I still would rather have the great departure angle rather than not. Other than that the thing appears that it will work out great. I need to get used to the clunking and noises from towing it, but all in all I am very very pleased. I'll post pics sometime this weekend.

I want to get my jeep weighed and the trailer. I am curious to know what they both weigh. The trailer is light. I can push and pull it around ridiculously easily with one hand. My driveway is inclined and I had no trouble whatsoever pushing it up it after I unhooked it. It is going to work out nice and will be heavier duty than I will ever really need.

Now you need to drive around and park your rig next too a "stock" trailer so we can see the height difference in your trailer build up. Compared to your rig the trailer looks like the ride height is to low, LOL.

Yeah, the hitch on my jeep is so stinking high. I was hoping to get by with a shorter drop hitch, but oh well. I'm not sure how the trailer compares in height to other ones, but it would be interesting to see.


Oh, and the trailer only weighs in at 350 pounds.

Also, for anyone wondering it cost me $46 to register it and should cost $5-15 next year to do it again. Pretty good deal I thought.

The custom rockers, bumpers and roof rack all look great and the SFA is awesome!
The trailer also looks great! and looks bad a$$ even though you need about an 8" hitch drop haha
Best part is all of the stuff is custom done by you, hopefully once i keep practicing my welding i could get some nice custom bumpers and rock rails

Thanks. I haven't taken any classes on welding or anything, I just started doing it on various small projects and I can run a decent bead now. I love making custom parts for my jeep. Best way to to do it IMO.
