I have been in a similar situation before. I rear ended a guy that emergency stopped to let someone jaywalk over to a part of a bridge that is off limits to pedestrians. It was a minor hit without any damage but it was still my fault because I was following too close and underestimated the braking power of a beat up Dakota coupled with the stupid-courteousness of the driver. Had I or the OP been driving defensively then neither crash would have happened. Part of defensive driving is being aware of and actively looking for **********, *******, dipshits, and tourists. Had this person cut him off first then it would have been their fault. The two second rule is also changed to the three second plus rule. Three seconds for dry roads with low traffic volume. Add one second of following time for each modifier. Rain, traffic, construction, etc.

Oh and I disagree with Ryan. Back in 06 I had an accident where I hit a parked car. I was driving through town one the second sunny day after a week of frozen weather, temp was about 35, sun was out and no frost or ice was visible. I turned left onto a two way road, and maintained my turn radius right into a co-worker's Tundra. I tried to steer out of it but nothing I did helped. I might have been able to hit the 4x4 switch and accelerate out of the spin but I doubt it. I ended up causing 4000 in damage to my Escape and 700 to the Tundra. This same Tundra was hit 2 more times before this officer went out on medical leave. I trashed my bumper cover, hood, left front fender, LF headlight, and condenser. It was an accident because I wasn't driving in a negligent or irresponsible way, I had no reason to expect ice but I was still being careful. I wasn't issued a ticket for doing anything wrong.

Well I just inspected it and it looks like the whole plastic support behind the grille is shot and the metal behind the bumper is very mishapen. It looks worse now than I thought. As for the question about the mounting, I had two bolts holding the bracket to the body and two more to connect the brush guard to the bracket. So I know it was as good as it should be but when I hit the van it bent all the body metal without doing anything to the bracket

Well, I am glad you weren't hurt. The jeep can be fixed.

michigan weather ***** about as much as its drivers. i was on the highway and the light turned yellow about 20 feet in front of me and the stupid lady in front of me decided that she was going to slam on her brakes and fishtail all over and let me hit her. i had my pedal to the floor and i knew i was gunna ram her and i did:mad:. BUT luckily i had my brush guard on and it saved my whole front end. all i have is a dented hood and a crack in the bumber plastic. the bracket for the brush guard bent and let the guard hit the bumper and hood but i think i got off lucky......as for that stupid town n country.....she needs a whole new rear end.
BTW, even though it was legaly my fault, it was hers. i had time to hit her, grab my phone, and get out before that stupid light turned red.

Wow, that meant that even if you were touching her rear bumper already she could only have been 4 feet from the interection, the yellowlasts for 20 seconds, and you were travelling .075 MPH... #-o

Too soon to chuckle over it? I am sorry to hear about your crash, though.
