Hey all I just noticed in the past couple of days that My Liberty is leaking something that appears to be water. The leak is coming from behind the transmission slightly to the right.

Any ideas whats wrong with it? I'm taking it to the shop on Monday.

It's mid vehicle? It may be the condensed water from the exhaust dripping from the muffler drain.....if it's behind the trans to the right.

Are you sure the AC is off? The A/C runs whenever you have the windshield defroster on.

If your using the defrost your a/c system is cycling, and it may just be condensation from that. If no fluids are low and everything is fine i wouldn't worry about it.

Need a better description of exactly where the drip is. AC condenser drips right in front of passenger side firewall. Will have no oily feel or color to it. Even coolant will be slightly oily feeling due to the anti-freeze component.

The a/c drips won't always be right next to the firewall when you see the water, though. Skid plates and things can divert it farther back.

Crawl under see what it is

Not always that simple. My coolant leak was acting every bit like a power steering fluid/rack leak. Even the dealer crawled under it and said "yep, power steering leak". Two months later, after watching it like a hawk, I finally discovered it was a small coolant leak coming from the waterpump gasket, dripping down around the crank and landing right on one of the rack fluid fittings, leaving an oily sheen on it. Unless something is really leaking, and leaking consistently, it can be a ***** to find, even with a clean engine.

In fact, that's another question to ask the OP, is it always leaking? Or do you find fluid occasionally?

If it's coming from the waterpump gasket... no, relatively easy and cheap to fix. If you're doing it yourself. Lord knows what a mechanic would charge.
