My New Toy

Hi Group,

1st time poster, first time visitor. Just found this place and wanted to share my new toy with you all.

I have lots of plans and things I would lve to do, but new to the 4x4 Jeep world, so want to make sure I do the right things.

I do want bigger rims/tires, a better rack, and lights and front roll bars. Any advice?

First off, nice Jeep. That red is really bright.

Next, I would recommend getting rid of those tires first. They can be downright dangerous. If you are planning on doing any wheeling, be careful of those steps as well.

Welcome Milezone!

Look around (and also over at LOST - http://www.lostkjs.com), there's lots of information and anecdotal evidence about what size tires fit, or which ones require trimming some part of the wheel well. There's a lot of variability, some people with the exact same model and tires will get rubbing where someone else might not.

Also note that there is a wiki-book on the Liberty - http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Jeep_Liberty - which has a section on tires and what size will rub with what size lift.

Thanks for the words guys, and for that last comment, that's waaaay too much meat for my ride. But it is cool looking.

I will be using this ride for more of a everyday cruiser, but want it trail ready when needed. ;-) Any advice for tires/rims for that purpose?

First off (welcome)!!

For a daily driver/weekend wheeler, You're going to want a good set of all terrains. The Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVO's (what I run) and the BFG All-Terrain TA/KO's are the two most popular choices in this range, with the 3rd being the General Grabber's.

Well the KJ's are already trail ready!! You don't necessarily need to lift it because these little KJ's are very capable at stock height for the trail. The only suggestion would be to invest in protecting your under belly with full skids (Engine, Trans, T-Case, Gas tank). Also make sure you have some form of tow hooks up front and/or hitch and a rear tow hook and/or hitch. Lastly would be to upgrade the tires to those mentioned above (Bridgestone or BFG's). You can stuff 245/70's under the KJ without a lift.

dont be fooled it is just a sticker cause I dont see a skid plate up front
get you some skids but first get some tires we had those same ones on our '03 ltd and they nearly killed us
after a while it will look like my wifes ltd

Awesome advice, and yes those Bridgestone's are going to be my tires of choice. I also purchased a lift kit from Rusty's, that should be here in about a week. Any advice on rims? I would like to go with some nice, and I don't care about the cash, as I have in budget about $2K for the wheels/tires.

Keep the OE wheels or find some with at least 5" of Back Spacing and no more than 7" wide
other wise they will cause rubbing issues

Rims from the Jeep Rubicon ('06 and before) are a popular choice, and you can usually find them used fairly readily. We got these and the tires on them (245/75-16 MT/Rs) from AllJ:

We used to have the stock Limited 17" rims, but the 16" a) give you more vertical rubber for the same size tire, and b) are easier to find tires for.
