That is the t-case in the majority of KJ's, followed by the 242J, with the 6spd's getting the 241J. (J = jeep, C = chevy, etc...)

Some version of the 231 was in just about every jeep and many Chevies and Dodges for about 25 years.

I would not be surprised if it was the most common t-case in the U.S. for at least 2 decades.

Pretty much all US pickups and SUV's either have a NP or NV t-case,they are the same company now.Don't worry about it and run it,it's a good t-case.

Ditto and you can get an upgrade kit to make it more bullet proof if you want

NP/NV231 is light-duty xfer case God. Do not anger or taunt it, for it will ruin your day most unceremoniously.

The 231 can be beefed up to be a 241J ,not a rock track, just not worth it
new HD chain
new input shaft
new out put shaft
hold about 1/2qt or so less oil
this will also make it hold up to Terra low gears
however at a cost of $2K you can buy a rock track and needed adapters for a few $$ more

The case body, where the chain goes, is physically wider on a 241 than on a 231. You can squeeze a 241 chain (50% wider) in a 231 case?

I'm surprised too that the same model T-case can be found in a YJ as a KJ. To be truthful There are small differences aren't there between the various 231 T-cases? I've heard that the spline count may different depending what vehicle they're used in.

I've heard you can buy an upgrade for it c/w beefier parts but I suppose it's the aluminum case that always fails.

Say, has anybody ever put a model 300 twin stick T-case in a Libby? That would be cool, and sturdy too. Advance Adapters must have a kit to make it work

There are many version of the 231 that have different inputs and outputs, lengths, and mounting surfaces.

No 300 but a much better version of the 205 version.............

SOME KJ's got the 241J, better than any Wrangler t-case outside of the 241OR "rocktrac"

Only for the 6-speeds and only reason was the KJ's 231 will not bolt up.Basically the same t-case as the 231 with a 1/4" wider chain is all the 241 is.

no it is bigger and better
I mean it is a 241 which is 10 more than a 231

kidding

to the dana 300 in a KJ
front out put is on the wrong side
you would need to do a "flip kit" to do it
but just like in a TJ it can be done
I have seen a write up on it
when you do it you can run a true flat belly pan ,frame rail to frame rail
with no body lift
and it can have 4 to 1 ,twin sticks and stronger
keep in mind that a 231 will handle small V8 power
it is the slip yoke that fails but with a HD sye that is not an issue
