installed the studded snow tire setup.

also finally drove by the gas station that I've seen a silver liberty sitting, sans plates.
it's for sale. 2002-2004 silver 3.7 5spd 4x2, with a Louisiana dealer sticker on the back hatch.
doors don't show any sign of rot on the bottom edge, so at least there's that.
thinking worst case if I get it for a good price, I'll steal the doors. even though it's a 4x2 I could maybe turn it into a winter beater. we plow and salt the snot out of roads, so post storm it'd be fine to drive around in.
in the end, there's options.

Nothing wrong with having a spare parts truck around if you have the space.

Man I would still love to have a two wheel drive to build a fun little toy out of
gonna go look at it in the daylight, once the temp is above freezing.
I'm hoping it's "characteristics" allow me to get it nice and cheap. like $500 cheap.

aye.
I got a parts car for the convertible sebring we're "restoring" for the kid.
figure a parts jeep is about the only way I'll get things like doors.
and with this being apparently a southern jeep, it should be in way better shape for stuff like that.
it's got the 3rd brake light rot problem.

wow.
so ok, it's a 10-03 build date, so 04.
213k miles on the odometer
the doors, aren't pristine, not even close. they're not as bad as mine, but they have rot
hood and gate struts are totally wasted
rockers on both sides in the back are rotting through, but the frame doesn't appear to have any issues beyond the "normal" surface patina.
tires are date code 3920 but they're some no name chinesium brand and they look 3/4 the way gone.

all the glass is good and clean
interior, is an interior. not stellar, not totally trashed
someone's ripped the SKIM/SKREEM system out of it, and it starts/runs on a non-coded key.
trans works. all 5 forward and 1 reverse are there.
the engine, that's a different story.
no coolant in the overflow tank
oil is down at least 2 quarts (it's on the stick, but well off the low mark)
it smokes like a chimney from the engine bay (massive oil leaks)
exhaust is totally shot; you can see holes in the muffler
it had codes for bank 2 rich, coolant temp sender failure.
and the best part, multi cylinder misfire. almost feels like an entire bank is out.
when you'd try to rev it it'd flash the money light. that gave me a P0300 mult-cylinder misfire.

so, we'll see what they want for it. worst case maybe $300, and I can at least use it as a storage cube, and maybe use it as a testbed for some ideas (low mount roof rack basket light assembly, aux fuel tank design, whatever else I feel like.)

I Well, I guess he gets to keep it ‍

I had someone offer me a parts jeep 2wd for $300. I took a lookand decided there wasn't enough there to justify it for me. 2‐3 months later It was still sitting there so I brought it up again and said $50, just get it off my hands. Of course I took it, got the few parts I could use and parted the rest out until eventually someone to the remainder for $300. I think I came around $700 $800 up after all done. But it's been a while. I got $550 just for the cats.

claimed he could get more than my offer for it if he junked it.
funny how he's had it there for at least 2 months from what i can tell.
I'll keep an eye on it (easy, as it's right on a major road, and I pass by often enough.)
Once a month i'll drop him a text. :D

I mean, it took me 6 months of off and on negotiations to get the convertible. I know how to be patient. :D

Tore mine open to swap the timing chain and associated gears and tensioners, decided to hit the power steering pump, plugs, and coil packs while I had it open and all the fluids drained. Looking at painting the valve covers while I've got them off. My dad's pushing for orange and I think I might agree with him.

Looks fun. I agree why not paint it, but isn't orange kinda the signature chevy color. I don't know what chryslers is. I'd either go body color, chrysler or jeep color (if there is one) or something really wacky like yellow.

Yellow was a strong contender, as was red, but I ended up opting for orange. Will update as I work through the project. Got the timing chain coming along nicely and should have it fully installed by tomorrow morning!

Got the brake fluid done last week, and I'll be dropping my car off at a driveshaft shop to have the differential checked out. I'm riding with the fiance to spend Christmas in San Diego, and I'm looking forward to sipping margaritas on the beach while the rest of y'all freeze!
