I have a 2005 Liberty with a 4 cylinder engine and was wondering how does one remove the protective boot over the spark plugs. Do you just pull the wire up into the center section of the protective boot and then just up and out for the boot with a bit of wiggling.
Mine seems to be fairly stuck in there and just wanted to make sure I need a bit more force before I rip something in half. Also does the Throttle body have to come out to remove the center plugs.
In a wrenching mood this weekend just put a new fan clutch in my 81 Corvette.
Thanks in advance

If it has spark plug wires then yes, just pull it from the base of the boot. Do not pull it by the wire. Just be careful that you dont damage the boot.

They make a spark plug boot puller that works best.

Here's what the '05 Service Manual has on removing the plugs:

If spark plug for #2 or #3 cylinder is being
removed, throttle body must be removed. Refer to
Throttle Body Removal.
(1) Remove air cleaner tube and housing.
(2) Twist secondary cable at cylinder head to break
loose at spark plug. Remove cable from plug.
(3) Prior to removing spark plug, spray compressed
air into cylinder head opening. This will help
prevent foreign material from entering combustion
chamber.
(4) Remove spark plug from cylinder head using a
quality socket with a rubber or foam insert.
(5) Inspect spark plug condition.

So yeah, it looks like you need to remove the throttle body to get the two middle plugs out.

And since I don't think I got around to it earlier, welcome aboard :D
