I have a friend who has a BMW with ESP. He tell me that if he pushes the ESP button once, the system goes only partially off... If he wants to the ESP going completely off (for a track day, for example), he has to keep the ESP button pressed for several seconds...

Has someone tried this in a KJ?

Cheers! :)

The only way to 100% turn it off is by pulling the ABS fuse but all the lights will be on the dash and no ABS at all till the fuse it put back in.
Or have the Jeep in 4Lo, but you ain't going anywhere fast in that 4wd mode.

Ive heard that you cannot do that in the kj but thats how it is in our WK. Cant do anything anyway with Quadra Drive though.

Check out your owners manual if you have an 06 kj.

I did that out of curiosity (at a stoplight and did the "I wonder what happens if I hold it down...). The light just goes out. I did not notice a difference, but i was on dry pavement.

When in all modes, except for 4LO, pushing the button puts the ESP system in Partial Off mode. This shuts off the TCS part of ESP, except for the limited slip part of TCS. All other features remain on.

When in 4LO, pushing the ESP button turns the system completely off, except for the limited slip feature of TCS.

Nope, this is incorrect, it only puts it into partial off.

Trust me it prevented me from climbing a steep icy hill because it activated the brake lock differential function.
Yeah, the limited slip feature remains on...

In 4WD low range, ESP and TCS, except for the “limited slip” feature described in the
TCS section, are turned off until the vehicle reaches a
speed of 30mph (48km/h).

Anyone try THIS method for 2007 and up models?

Start with the engine off, the vehicle stopped, the steering wheel straight, the front tires pointing straight forward and the transfer case in 4H.

Turn the ignition key from off to on (you can start the engine if you want) and wait about five seconds, which is just after the chiming stops. Most of the dash warning lights will turn off. Turn the steering wheel between the 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock position and then recenter it, holding it still for a few seconds. Now turn the steering wheel 180 degrees clockwise. The word Jeep should be upside down in the center of the steering wheel. It is very important that you do not let the wheel slip backward at all once you move it into position.

Hold the steering wheel in position. Press and hold the ESP Off button for seven seconds. There will be a chime at five seconds, but hold the button for the full seven seconds. Then turn the steering wheel back to center, and then a little more than 180 degrees counter-clockwise. The word Jeep will once again be upside down in the center of the steering wheel. Remember not to let the steering wheel back up once you move it into position. You may or may not hear chimes - ignore them.

Press and hold the ESP Off button for seven seconds, with the steering wheel turned LEFT with JEEP straight up and down. Then turn the wheel back to center (with the word Jeep right side up and the wheels pointing straight). Press and hold the ESP Off button one more time for another seven seconds. Turn the ignition key to off. If you did it correctly, "ESP Off" will show in the instrument cluster for a few seconds each time the ignition is turned on, and the ESP light will stay on.
