The Four Peaks Pickup started in 2008 after a couple of OHV enthusiast's on a day trip saw the mass amounts of trash and debris left at this off highway area just north east of Phoenix, AZ. They decided to spread the word via the internet to all of their fellow outdoor enthusiasts. In the first year 250 volunteers came out to fill thousands of trash bags and meet like minded people all the while collecting 7 tons of trash. In the second year over 500 Volunteers arrived nearly overwhelming the dumpsters and a trash truck had to be called to carry away the last of the 21 tons of trash.
This year we hope to have another great year of meeting new friends, seeing old ones, and making the desert look pristine again. Each year sponsors donate thousands of dollars worth of items for the give-away held at the end of the day to say thanks to people who gave their Saturday for this event.
This years cleanup is being head on February 6th, 2010. For more information and directions check out www.fourpeakspickup.blogspot.com.
Items to bring to any cleanup:
Long pants, gloves (for all of those sharp objects), a hat, sunscreen, extra trash bags and some water. (A rake or shovel can also come in handy for getting all of those small objects like ammunition casings.)
