07 transfer case cable won't come out of the bracket.

Ok, what is the trick to getting the transfer case cable out out the bracket on the side of the transmission? I have tried everything, including breaking the plastic retainer, and it still will not come out of the bracket. The bushing went, and the only way I can fix it is to get the cable where I can get to it.
