What is this thing under the dash?

In my '02 Liberty (I bought the car used) I have this plug thing under the driver's side dash towards the right that I'm unsure the purpose of.

Anyone have an idea what this is for?

it's for the scan tool....

dealers plug in their lil scanner, and it shows the codes that ur jeep might be spitting out
