I think it is more of a REV limiter as well. I have had mine past 105, recently in fact. It is really not to preserve the transmission, they can take 400+HP, and speeds well past what the limiter is. The limiter is there for safety, period.
I had a Dodge Avenger, I had that to 125, on a flat surface, 119 up a hill, and that's when a Durango beat me. I was revved out at 6200 in 3rd, and 4th would not get me up the hill, I was losing speed, so it would kick down again. Once I got to 6200rpm in 3rd, it would try and shift to 4th again, no go... The car fell flat on its face... SO, the Durango passed me going up the hill.. These KJs can go faster.
You can TRICK the speed and REV limiter with a circuit board that reduces the signal by 50%, though you would not need that much, but the circuit diagram and parts list I have is wired for that reduction.
A GPS to track speed is in error by +/- 3MPH... I have TWO GPS units, and both are off by different values, depending on what car it's in; Liberty, or the Vibe. They are not accurate either, even the maps are in error by 30meters, and you are told this in the directions, and disclaimers.
Too bad that Bolt On Supercharger is no longer in production man, that would help a lot. The intake is PLASTIC, so fabricating an intake for an Eaton SC is not ALL that hard, if you have the machinery. I know people who have cut their intake plenums up, and welded an Eaton to the intake, of course, with all the correct measurements so the belt will attach to the double pulley to wherever you use it...
I would like to see an Underdrive crank pulley for the KJ, for some more get-up and go.
