Spare tire carrier without under brackets

Hi all

do you think its safe to reinstall the spare tire carrier without the brackets that sit under it against the jeep body? Mine rotted away, I've removed it temporarily to work on tailgate rust, may have also damaged some of the double ended bolts while doing that so if anyone knows part numbers or sources that would be great

Anyone who has modded or overhauled the tire carrier have advice on this?

The tire carrier is rated at 50lbs max and without those “rotted” pieces of metal the weight of the tire and bracket will bounce against the tailgate and dent it. Suggestion: go to Home Depot and look for Simpson straps or similar in the building materials area and use them. They are galvanized and you can paint them too. The Simpson strap itself comes in rolls and is too flexible, but there is a heavier gauge “Simpson strap” material about 8” long with holes and can be used. Look at that as an option.
