I thought I'd share this in case it's of use to someone. My '06 KJ would not start the other day for my wife - turned over and died, as per behaviour when not using a correct Sentry key. The key is correct however, and after a few tries, it would not even turn over. It was totally dead when I came to try as well, but battery charge fine - immobilizer light would flick off then straight on again when the key was turned.
I towed it home this weekend and got a look today. After a quick play (literally prodding around under the dash at the loom) it started, then on a short test the dashboard instruments died, iginition lights and immobilizer light came on, but the car kept running. Wouldn't start again after turning it off.
Eventually with a cue from here Intermittant Sentry Immobilizer - JeepForum.com I adjusted the steering column up and down a few times and everything is now running once more, and hasn't stopped after a few tests this afternoon.
The column mounting has a fair amount of surface corrosion where it adjusts - is there a dependency for an earth through this does anyone know? I'm trying to locate the exact problem area to be sure. I shall clean up the column and see what happens from there. I need reliability as I go into the desert on camping trips here!
In the meantime, try the steering column trick if you get a dead KJ...
