I'm a new member!

02 Liberty has had a couple of major temperature gauge spikes. Radiator electric fan appears to only come on with AC. Gauge most times stays just below the center mark. I am currently in Las Vegas with midday temps in 80s.

What controls when the fan comes on for temperature? Where is this device located?

What else should I be looking for as a possible cause?

Help me Jeep fans.

Cheers,

Millard

Welcome! Mine runs just below half way on the temp gauge. Seems pretty normal.

If the fan is not running when its getting hot it could be the fan module. Common problem on jeeps with electric fans. Best way to test it is with a test light. When you engine is getting hot quickly check for power and ground at the fan plug. Its just to the left of the fan if your looking down at it from the front of the jeep... If your not getting power its probably your fan module. If there is power then its your fan motor.

Fan module location?

I understand the temperature gauge needle is just short of half = normal. When it starts to rise to and past the next mark is what I call, "starting to overheat".

Yesterday while driving in city traffic for about 40 minutes with AC on it started to overheat. We brought the temp back down with turning off the AC. It was sunny and mid 80's in Las Vegas.

The electric fan works when the AC is turned on (at least in the driveway). It doesn't seem to work when hot and AC not on. Where is this fan module? Maybe it's intermittent or has wiring issues.

On a separate note, I changed antifreeze but only seemed to drain and replace about 6-7 quarts. My owner manual says 14 quarts. That's a big difference. Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Millard
