Oops! Dot3 in Power steering res

I wonder if this is good news?

My 04 Kj- I thought it was power steering fluid in the res as well and I recently removed the res fluid and added Lubegard Universal synthetic power steering fluid. Well I will say that the power steering pump immediately quietened down.
I received a call back from LuberGard ( International Lubricants) in Seattle, and they stated that the LubeGard power steering fluid will mix well with ATF+4 as it is synthetic and non foaming.
However on that note, since I am now aware that ATF+4 is in there, I will add +4 from now on or use LubGard Red Transmission additive.
Amazing how much quieter this pump is now. I think I found a new mixture that is better than regular +4.

In the end changing out the fluid did not work. My rack is bad and I am white knuckle driving it until Friday when my new rack will be here. Anyone who puts power steering fluid in and it gets circulated for for a couple of weeks will be looking at replacing the rack. This *****!!!

You sure thats all that hurt it? I can't imagine regular power steering fluid doing that much damage as we ran it for years in my Dodge Caravan, we had that for five years before we found out that it was actually supposed to be ATF in there. The manual made no mention of it, just said Mopar Power Steering Fluid. Since i couldn't find that without going to a dealer i put in the next best thing i could find, plain old power steering fluid.

I just emptied the reservoir on my KJ today, it was looking pretty dark, sucked out as much as i could with a large syringe and tubing, topped it off with ATF+4, and i will run it for a while and then empty it again to continue cleaning it out.

The manual for my 03' says Mopar Power Steering Fluid. From all the posts on here i take it that should be ATF+4, i did notice the pump is a bit quieter now!

I shouldn`t say that it will do damage to everyone who puts PS fluid in their systems. It was the only thing I did to my PS unit ever and it went bad. The KJ is only 4 years old with 50K miles. I wouldn`t wish it on anyone either. Its a scary feeling driving it like that. I will be fixing it starting Friday.

I got conflicting info from dealers and online about my 03', some said Mopar Power Steering Fluid, some said ATF+4, but from what i read the MPSF is amber in color and darkens as it gets older, well mine was a dark red, basically looked like past due ****** fluid, so i assume i had ATF+4 in there to begin with or someone else made the mistake of topping it off with such, i don't know for sure. I just kept going with ATF+4 and it sure got quiet after changing out the fluid in the reservoir. Drove it around for a while and even on one 50 mile round trip and not a noise and no apparent changes in behavior other than feeling a bit smoother when making sharp turns.
