Hello, I am new here. I have a 2004 jeep liberty with 42rle transmission. Recently a P0734 and p1790 code came up. It will slip and throw it into limp mode. When I turn off and back on can continue driving but will continually throw back into limp mode. If I drive with over drive off it runs fine with no problems. Would really like to fix without just buying a used transmission. I have done a fluid and filter change with no change, and while dirty the original fluid was definitely not the worst I've seen. I do love these jeeps as I have had this one, along with an 03 before I which I should not have sold and 3 99 through 04 wj and one 96 zj. There is something special about the kj I love though. Please help out with suggestions as I would love to keep her on the road.

Best to take it to a good transmission shop and let them diagnose the issue with proper test equipment. Could possibly save you a lot of time and money?
Problem could be an internal mechanical issue, or a bad solenoid or bad wiring, or bad TCM that controls everything. Guessing and throwing parts at it without knowing the root failure cause can get real expensive not to mention having to R&R the transmission more than once.

If you have to get a good used transmission, these are the vehicles to look at:
The 42RLE transmission was used in a variety of Dodge, Jeep, and Chrysler vehicles between approximately 2003 and 2012, including the Jeep Wrangler and Liberty, the Dodge Dakota, Durango, and Ram 1500, and several Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger/Challenger/Magnum models. Rear wheel drive models ONLY!
