i have a 2002 sport that i bought a year ago. the AC compressor is shot , is this s common problem in a 4 year old vehicle? anyone ever had same?

No it's not a common problem. Are you sure it's shot? What's it doing (or not doing)? If it's not coming on and/or blowing warm air, you could just be low on freon. When you get to a certain level, the low pressure cut off switch kicks on and prevents damage to the compressor by preventing it from coming on.
