My 05 Renegade repair & update thread

So, I’ve been workin on it, but keep forgetting to update. I was also waiting on a few items, as I found some glaring oversights on my part. First, the electric fan had no blades....just a motor sitting there. WTF!?! The shroud was destroyed, so I’m guessing it was in a wreck not too far back...

My 05 Renegade repair & update thread

Finally took some pics of the front end. Replaced the headlights and blinkers (turn indicators:p), then used spray bedliner on the grille while it was off. Also, the OEM spring design is fircked. I’ve never seen a spring with different diameters in the coils. At least we know why the rears...

My 05 Renegade repair & update thread

I just did some more reading and I’m not sure where I came up with that. I swear I remember reading the high temp range was higher with the 10w vs the 5w, but I can’t find anything saying that now. I’ll switch it back to 5w30.

My 05 Renegade repair & update thread

I’ve always run 10w in the summer since there are always 30+ days over 100. When it cools off, I’ll go back to 5w.

    Hey from Texas

Thanks! We promised my father-in-law we’d make sure she had a car when she turned 16 before he died, so we got her something that’ll last if she takes care of it. I’d have loved a 4wd SUV when I was younger. The top surfaces are sunburnt. I’m pretty sure the previous owners never washed it...

What did you do to your jeep today?

Continued our maintenance work on our KJ. Today was rear shocks, springs, and brakes. Front brakes and shocks are here, so they’ll be next.

    Regarding KJ and JK headlights

I hoped the same thing, but soon discovered the only legit headlights for the KJ are stock replacements. If this was mine, I’d retrofit some HID projectors from The Retrofit Source, but it’s going to our niece, so she gets stock...LOL. I did go with the Philips XV bulbs just to add a little more...

My 05 Renegade repair & update thread

One thing I forgot to mention is how many KJ’s we passed on b/c I thought they had oil leaks. After getting under this one, I realized how the awkward removal of the oil filter was likely the cause of the oil mess everywhere. I changed the oil on ours yesterday (Castrol GTX High Mileage...

My 05 Renegade repair & update thread

Just picked up an 05 KJ Renegade for our niece and wanted to make it more reliable. I’ve learned a bunch from this forum already, so the fixes and mods I’m doing all have a tight budget in mind. After inspecting everything, we made a list of what we wanted to replace. Some of the items...

    Hey from Texas

Hi, all. Picked up an 05 KJ Renegade for our 16 y.o. niece. The paint isn’t in great shape, but it’s really good mechanically and only has 78k miles on it. We found a bunch of receipts showing some of the work that was done to it, which was a nice surprise. We aren’t new to Jeeps and have 2...

Seafoam spray directly into catalytic converter?

I agree. Seafoam is great in the occasional tank of gas, but the best way to clean out your cats is to get on it and get everything heated up really good. The heat can also burn any gunk off the O2’s.
