Sorry. wire ties in my neck of the woods are different then a zippy tie, like what's on a bread bag. I knew what you meant but just pictured someone doing something different.
Take the 4 nuts off the rear caps pry it forward till u joints clear drop the rear of the drive shaft down and slide it back. Don't bang on it till you get it out might have to use a big screw driver to pry it forward.
Put the steering rack back in with new outer tie Rod ends as well and string gaged it. Now I'm sitting waiting for the alignment. Errr someone else working on my Kj hate it but can't use the rack at work as I'm putting in a new bay and Rack. You know thats when I would need it. Son of a pup dog...
Blew the rack&pinion on the way to work at 6a then had it off a 6p after work new one comes in a 9a tomorrow but I have to work till 10p so Saturday it is.
Put a rag soaked in ammonia in a plastic milk jug with the lid cut off under the hood in a safe place. Critters hate the smell works for critters getting in to your garbage cans too.
Ok I'll say it check the front drive shaft aka prop shaft if the boot looks good take it off and take it for a ride do not put it in 4 wheel drive. If noise is gone time for CV rebuild, most likely the rear.
Might help to open glove box unclip the sides slide it to the right move it down and remove it the screen is back there on the right. It is kinda hard to see and get to.
