Re Gearing After Lifting - Need Some Education

I am actually trying to find a front diff from a diesel. They are not that rare and the pricing on them less than what a gear set and installation would be. The rear can be done with the axle still on the Jeep.

    Driveline noise since the lift.

The more I drive it the quieter its getting. So I'm not to motivated to start tearing things apart just yet. Some of it will get addressed later on anyway. I'm going to put it back on a lift and see if there is anything obvious. I may go ahead and drop that front DS but other than that I'm going...

    Driveline noise since the lift.

Tom would pulling the front DS help pinpoint the problem? At least as to whether is front or rear?

    Driveline noise since the lift.

Guess it would be easy enough to remove the front DS and see if the noise goes away.

    Driveline noise since the lift.

You know I remember there being yellow marks on the front DS...like it came from a salvage yard. It looks like its in good shape.

    Driveline noise since the lift.

From visual inspections the boots are intact and it seems tight. Would the front DS be under a load in 2WD?

    Driveline noise since the lift.

I have an audible low grade thump or knock that starts at about 50 mph and it goes away completely if you lift the throttle and let it coast. From what I can see the u-joints seem ok and its not like a noise you would hear with a bad rear end bearing. Seems to get better the longer you drive. I...

    Maiden Voyage

So now that my Liberty has a lift installed and new tires it was time to use it for what I bought it for...checking and maintaining our dirt bike trials. We have about 900 leased acres of hilly thick woods terrain with over 40 miles of trails. All of the property has fire roads but several are...

I have done business with RRO and in fact I have some roof rails coming from them now. I have always had good luck with them.

    Regearing

I have seen some that cracked the case..but I am talking about guys that can break steel balls with rubber hammers. But I'm sold stock case with the DTT I already have and 4.10's. Not sure what I am going to put in the rear but leaning toward an ARB. I have an auto locker in my XJ and I hate it...

    Regearing

Yea the DTT is not going to take big tires and abuse anyway..but it will fit inside the stock housing? I'm not going over 265/70's at the most or the 2.5 lift so sounds like the stock diff will work. What parts from a regular D30 will not work on the KJ's?

    Regearing

So now that my lift is installed even with 255/70-16's I can see there needs to be a set of 4.10's installed. I have a lot of experience with the rear 8.25 but none with the aluminum front Dana 30. Just how fragile is it and will it accept any lockers? I have a Dana 30 Eaton Truetrac LS I would...

I got them from a regional tire company, Gateway Tires. I think they are sold by a lot of independents and regional tire retailers.

Those are the XTX SUV tires also. I think they are 4 ply instead of 6. They are 10 lbs lighter than the LT versions. Multi-Mile - SUV-LT
