What did you do to your jeep today?

Did some off-roading... well, its a road but you need 4x4 and some height to traverse it. Its just the road to my land, can't get there by car. I always go nice and slow, then I see some idiot FLYING up to me in a huge pickup truck... turned out to be the border patrol. If you continue down...

    Need new front springs...

Hmmm.. you're giving me ideas now. I think I will go to the parts place this week and ask to see one of each side by side, stencil the bolt pattern etc to see if it would actually fit. Sounds to me like if 310 is not enough, and 400 is better, the 410 must be even better still. Having...

    Need new front springs...

STOP YELLING! Just kidding... :happy175: So you're saying they'd probably be too stiff. When I look at the specs, the CRD seems to be around 400 lbs more than the Gas model (10% maybe). Any idea why they would be so much higher rated?

    Need new front springs...

Tom, I know you were just kidding here, but would the CRD coil give you some lift? Do you know for sure if the spring rate is higher than the gas model or just longer? Let's say, someone accidentally ordered some Monroe quick struts for the CRD instead of the Gas model (Monroe just to rule out...

What did you do to your jeep today?

I can see the plugs needing changing perhaps, but only 5000 miles on the coils seems low. Not sure what the recommended interval is... that's something I need to check on mine, bought it in the fall, has terrible mileage... on the list of things to change.

    BCM and PCM location

Hi all, I want to start troubleshooting my U1411 code that comes and goes like the wind. The manual is not very forthcoming but does mention both the Body Control Module and the Powertrain Control Module, and the connections between them. I am seeing all kinds of references to where...

    Need new front springs...

Just wish they sold standard height quality springs... no lift. Once you lift, the potential for other things increases... a-arms, ball joints, tires, re-gear... goes on and on. Maybe I'll buy some OME and cut off a couple inches... ;)

The garage told me if I wanted to get parts myself, they would charge $100/hr instead of $75/hr, and would not give any warranty since its not their parts. I think that is fair. Even when paying shipping and duty, the RockAuto prices are 50% less than buying locally at NAPA, which are also...

Yeah, I checked NAPA locally and the prices are insane here as well. My local NAPA wants $269.99 each! So its not just the garage, they are simply expensive here in Canada for some reason. RockAuto, even with shipping and duty charges comes out to 1/2 price. The $395 from JeepinByAl comes...

So sorry... I am dyslexic when I type... I was quoted $337 for each FRONT upper control arm... damn, I checked and double checked to make sure I got the upper and lower straight, instead messed up the front and rear.

Damn, I was quoted $337 for each rear upper control arm for their "premium" version (10-year), and if I want to cheap ones (5-year) cost $158 each. They also need 2.6 hours to replace. Really, it is just the ball joint that is starting to make some noise. I guess most just swap the entire arm...

    Why ?

Cool... my actual title is "Application's Engineer" but that means something different everywhere you go. Part programming, part electronics, part video interfacing, part support... Glad to see even us "geeks" like to wrench on occasion. ;)

He removed the nut, then shined a flashlight on the busing and using a key he rotated the bolt and I could see the busing moving with the bolt. Maybe he meant removing the bolt could cause the busing to tear and then I would need a new control arm. If he worked for Chrysler, their policy would...

    Horn not working properly

Yeah... maybe its just my reflexes are not up to par... gut reaction never goes to the horn, always seems to be an after thought. I remember back when I did my drivers course, I turned and someone was about to run into me, I gunned it out of the way. The instructor blurted out "HONK!", which I...

    Horn not working properly

Sorry, every time I see this thread I think to myself, "who needs a horn?". Might just be me, I don't think I've ever used one before... maybe a small "toot" when someone doesn't notice the light turn green...

    Why ?

In my business (computer programming / customer support) we call it a code 18. The problem is 18" from the monitor... :)

My cousin is an off-road enthusiast and wheels on the weekend with a group of guys. One wrenched at Chrysler for 12 years and left to open his own shop with his brother. I decided to pass by and have a talk with them this morning. Super nice guys, stopped what they were working on and asked...

    KJ604's build thread

On the second line of the shipping address I normally add a comment: "Leave package at door". I know that can be risky, but I hate having to take extra time off work to run downtown to pick up the parts. I also tend to keep an eye on the tracking and as soon as I see "delivered" I take off and...

BDS lift for KJ - opinions

The BDS suspension does not come with front struts but they say this: What exactly does this mean? You must compress the factory strut? This phrase confuses me, can someone draw me a picture of what this would look like?
