Yeah, I get that though. Altho, rebuilding assemblies that are assumed will wear out is worth it versus straight out replacement. Bought the new cap online, $11 shipped. Anyone else find it's always a quandary whether to spend valuable time attempting to repair the original, refusing to believe it can't quickly be fixed, or forget about it and breakdown for a replacement...overcoming the pain of tossing the old one into...- Paul M

Who'd a thunk it? Even as an engineer- type still seems a little odd. I'm still a little baffled as to what exactly failed in the cap? The breather? The seal? No matter, worth a new one after too many rough roads. Thanks to everyone for their insight/suggestions.- Paul M

Took the cap apart, cleaned it, put all the components back together...rats, same error indicator. Two things: 1) might disconnect the battery to see if that resets the computer, or 2) may need to break down and buy a new cap, which is wholly bogus. Small rant: This failure is incomprehensible...- Paul M

I'll check the seal tomorrow thinking too many rough roads and dust may have compromised it. No error code. OM suggests the gascap notification is either a loose cap and needs tightening, or damaged and needs replacement.- Paul M

Intermittant Gascap Error
Started the Jeep (2007) and the "gascap" diagnostic indicator came up in the driver display with the ding sound. I tightened the cap...no change. Re-started...still sounding off. Cap doesn't seem loose or faulty. Anyone know what the problem may be?:hmm:- Paul M

Creeking/squeeking in rear over bumps
If all those suggestions don't remove the noise, here's another thought... mine was coming from dirt build up in the rear gate and window latches. They would creak on body twist or bounce. Cleaned them up and lube them, no more creak.- Paul M

Part time 4wd light on in 2wd.

What Size Roof Rack/Basket?
We like our Rola on homemade 3/4 gas pipe cross rails bolted to the stock rails (which will hold 150#'s). Not very far off the roof, looks good, not much wind noise, a slight decrease in mileage per tank on the highway but a non-issue. Somewhere on here I have a write-up how I made the cross rails.- Paul M

4WD problem
Yup, heard that bang before. I was trying to get up a small bump, shifted it into 4hi, transfer didn't like it so it banged...out of 4wd(best I can tell that what the noise came from). Thereafter the transfer shifter got sticky until I drove it a bit and shifted from 2wd to 4hi and back. Ok now...- Paul M

What's up with my KJ Interior?
Hmmm...really like that last pic...might have to look into leather covers. Two dogs, road trips (i.e. fast food) and general grunge have taken their toll. Sound coming from oil pan area
Does it continue or go away once the engine warms up a bit? Mine ticks a little on start up...bugs me but doesn't sound like upper engine. Almost like the oil pump pickup is struggling. Riding with rear hatch open
No worries of breakage. Despite the small mounting point on the glass the lifters have a shock effect that will take up some vibration/bounce...unless of course yer barrelling down some 2-track - I'd add a bungee then. As it is with my lifters they need replacing after too many years driving on...- Paul M

Vibration at 100 Mph only when accelerating
Oh she wouldn't be disappointed, she'd think it'd be cool to run the Nuerburgring (especially since she loves Top Gear UK and driving), altho preferably in a Porche verses the Heep. Regardless who runs regularly at 100mph or not, or what trouble can come of doing so, what the OP wanted to know...- Paul M

Ah, you guys...my wife says yer all whimps...hehe. Apparently she's had ours up to 100mph a bunch of times on some stretches of long and lonely Wyoming moonscape back roads.
