The new parts usually have zinc coating (however thin) that will resist rusting for a while - rusted parts that have been wire wheeled will start rusting during assembly from the oil left from your fingerprints. They will not "rust just the same".
If you get it to work using the above methods I would only put it back in temporarily. Once its rusted and froze that bad it will again in short order.
The AC did not work on my Bronco when I bought it - tried having it charged and found out the condenser was leaking. I loosened up the radiator so I could get to the condenser and found an 8" angled needle nosed pliers jammed between the two with the needle nose driven into the coils of the...
The "light" only measures pressure - not the oil level. You have one of three issues - bad sending unit, weak oil pump or sludge. Given my experience and observations with these engines - I would suspect sludge.
The sending unit is only $23-$28 and is not that big of an issue to replace...
Swapped the starter out on Sunday - actually not to big of deal if you follow the steps in the video.
You don't have to use a hand wrench for the top bolt if you have a wobble end extension. Biggest problem was getting the new starter in place - the new one was slightly larger and the heat...
If you keep the plugs "fresh" the coil packs will last longer. Worn plugs with burned electrodes make the coil packs work harder shortening their lives. I don't know what Dodge uses for coil packs but I know Ford's will last a couple hundred thousand miles on the 4.6 and 5.4 engines.
What is the pipe made out of? To be honest it doesn't look heavy enough to not bend back into the vehicle when it hits a 200 pound object at 60 MPH. The center section would be fine but the outside section by the headlights does not.
At one time we tried grill guards on our fleet trucks...
Agreed - The Ford Panther body style puts the gas tank above the rear axle and they have been known to rupture to. The difference being that all the documented cases of it happening occurred in rear end impacts where the offending vehicle was going at least 60 MPH - and usually over 75 MPH...
Since this thing is on it way to someone else I bought the cheapest new one I could find - about $58 delivered. At least I didn't just leave it for the next owner to fix. There is a HUGE range on the pricing on these things.
Have you tried reaching the starter to bang on it? Jeep is parked for now - I will install a starter this weekend. It just had to wait until after all the engine work was done rear its ugly little head.
Actually their own engineers told them in 1978 that putting the gas tank behind the rear wheels on higher setting vehicles was a safety issue even greater than the exaggerated claims made against the Ford Pinto.

If they can't make it safe and knew it wasn't safe to start with, and if the frame is so rust damaged that a hitch isn't possibly its probably to rusted to drive safely. Toyota fixed their rusty frames under their vehicles when they were 10+ years old. I doubt they can patch in the...
The original engine ran great except with every oil change I was getting more metal flakes in the oil. I bought it with 65K and talked to the previous owner (older woman that traded it in for a new Escape) and she had no issues with it. First oil change no metal - the last oil change at 83K...
Anyone know if these guys are any good?

How hard is it to get the starter off if you have the flex head sockets?
